Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

The Senior Director of Global Media Relations is responsible for developing and leading a best-in-class global media relations function that meaningfully contributes to Intuitive’s business goals and priorities, and advances Intuitive’s reputation as a leader in advanced, minimally invasive care.

The Senior Director will oversee Intuitive’s global media relations team, located across the US, Europe and Asia Pacific. This role will oversee the development and execution of a compelling, results-oriented and high-impact proactive global media relations strategy. It will also serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership around the globe on proactive, business-impacting media engagement as well as forecasting and navigating reputational issues and opportunities.

The role sits with Intuitive’s Global Public Affairs team, responsible for Intuitive’s strategy and activities across media relations and corporate reputation, patient advocacy and government relations.

The ideal candidate will leverage significant experience, a strong network and a demonstrated ability to build trust and deliver results across the global media landscape. This includes a sophisticated understanding of healthcare and innovation communications and the evolving media landscape, and the credibility and EQ to engage across audiences, platforms and regions in representing the business.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Lead Intuitive’s global media relations strategy to proactively promote Intuitive’s products, business strategy and brand, while protecting the company’s reputation.
    • Work together with other communications functions across audiences to create and implement an integrated, results-oriented proactive communications strategy – with media relations as a key pillar - aligned with Intuitive’s mission, vision and strategic priorities.
  • Provide strategic oversight of global media relations activities including preparation, engagement and amplification.
    • Work with regional media relations and broader GPA and cross-functional teams to identify high-impact opportunities to work with and amplify the work of customers and KOLs including clinicians, surgical societies, hospital and healthcare executives, patients and patient advocacy groups.
  • Cultivate and expand trusted relationships with top-tier media and others who shape coverage and perception of Intuitive.
  • Act as a strategic and trusted advisor to senior leadership on media/communications/corporate reputation around the globe.
  • Lead, inspire and further develop a high performing, proactive, strategic media relations team.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Significant experience and demonstrated success leading global media relations/communications in a fast-paced, complex environment and across multiple geographies.
    • Deep experience and results in and across US, Europe and Asia Pacific strategic media leadership.
    • Fluency in media planning and execution in global, regional and local contexts – experience leading media relations function(s) outside of the US.
    • Strong understanding of the interplay between communications and public affairs.
  • Proven track record of proactive, successful global and regional media relations campaigns, including delivering high-impact placements in national/tier one media.
    • Results-oriented, proven ability to lead strategic media workstreams from idea through implementation.
  • Executive presence and the ability to clearly and convincingly present strategic thinking to senior stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented, with ability to manage multiple priorities and workstreams simultaneously and with limited oversight.
  • Strong demonstrated people management and organizational leadership experience.

  • Exceptional, precise verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, relevant advanced degree a plus.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages.

Compensation will be based primarily on the job level at which the role is filled and the
candidate’s qualifications, consistent with applicable law.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target base compensation ranges are listed.
