Every financial decision helps provide shelter, recovery, healthcare, meals, and hope to people experiencing homelessness throughout Yakima County.  We are seeking a Senior Director of Finance to join our Executive Leadership Team and help shape the financial future of one of Central Washington's largest Christian nonprofit organizations. For nearly 90 years, Yakima Union Gospel Mission has been following Christ in helping people move from homelessness to wholeness.  Our ministry provides emergency shelter, recovery programs, medical and dental care, outreach, thrift operations, and other life-changing services to individuals and families throughout Yakima County.

About the Opportunity

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Director of Finance serves as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and ministry leaders.  This role provides strategic financial leadership while helping position YUGM for long-term sustainability, responsible growth, and continued ministry impact.  You will help guide executive decisions, strengthen financial planning, develop future leaders, and ensure our financial practices reflect excellence, transparency, and faithful stewardship.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors. 
  • Lead long-range financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. 
  • Develop financial models and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making. 
  • Oversee accounting, payroll, treasury, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls. 
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare meaningful financial reports that equip leaders to make informed decisions. 
  • Monitor organizational financial performance and recommend proactive strategies to strengthen long-term sustainability. 
  • Partner with Development leadership to support fundraising initiatives and financial stewardship. 
  • Evaluate the financial impact of new programs, capital projects, and strategic investments. 
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Promote faithful stewardship while supporting the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of YUGM.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a collaborative executive who enjoys solving complex financial challenges while helping others succeed.
Qualified candidates will typically have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field 
  • Seven or more years of progressive financial leadership experience 
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash management, and strategic planning 
  • Experience advising executive leaders, senior leadership teams, or boards of directors 
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial controls, and regulatory compliance 
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams 
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into practical business decisions 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • CPA or MBA 
  • Executive financial leadership experience within a nonprofit organization 
  • Experience with donor-restricted funds, grants, and nonprofit fund accounting 
  • Experience supporting organizational growth, capital projects, or significant organizational change 

Candidates currently serving as a Director of Finance, Assistant CFO, Vice President of Finance, Controller with executive leadership responsibilities, or similar financial leadership roles are encouraged to apply.
