Change.org is searching for a Senior Director of Engineering to partner with our VP of Product and senior leaders to accelerate measurable, sustainable growth across the Change.org platform—driving increased revenue, deeper user engagement, and long-term impact at scale. You will report to our CTO. As a key member of our Engineering team, you’ll deliver signature and revenue growth by leading a data-driven engineering team, co-owning growth strategy and execution, aligning cross-functional efforts, and building infrastructure for rapid experimentation and iteration, while participating in the on-call rotation.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform with 100 million users, 40,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. We’re working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started and hope you’ll join us!

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Key Outcomes:

  • Deliver significant increases in both signature volume and revenue through technical and product-driven growth initiatives.
  • Build and lead a deeply engaged, data-driven engineering team focused on experimentation and outcomes.
  • Establish a strong, trusted partnership with the VP of Product—jointly owning growth strategy and execution.
  • Influence cross-functional alignment and company-wide direction on growth—establishing best practices and driving coordination across engineering, product, and marketing.
  • Strengthen or build infrastructure to support rapid experimentation, measurement, and iteration across the growth team.

  • Growth Engineering Expertise – Demonstrated success leading technical initiatives that drive user and revenue growth.

  • Cross-functional Partnership – Proven ability to translate product and marketing goals into scalable engineering execution.
  • Team Building & Culture – Skilled at building high-performing teams, fostering engagement, and developing strong engineering culture.
  • Strategic Communication – Able to navigate ambiguity and communicate clearly across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership Through Ambiguity - Comfortable navigating uncertainty; skilled at identifying high-potential opportunities, validating ideas quickly, and scaling successful experiments into durable systems.

Target experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, including hands-on coding and architecture.
  • 7+ years in engineering leadership roles, including managing managers.
  • Proven experience leading growth engineering teams or cross-functional squads focused on user and revenue growth.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
