  • Represent MoveOn in broader movement convenings, participating in cross-organizational and industry communities of practice, and bringing and sharing insights to invest in the growth and learning of ourselves and our peers.
  • Manage a team of email, mobile, and web channel strategists, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation aligned with MoveOn’s goals and mission. Ensure ongoing leadership and career growth of the team, and manage budget and staff resourcing.
  • Oversee cross-organizational processes for evaluating the impact of digital strategies on MoveOn’s goals, providing a holistic view of organizational impact and member engagement through comprehensive reporting and analysis.

A successful candidate will:

  • Be an active consumer of news, politics, and digital best practices. You love knowing what’s going on, connecting people to what matters, and measuring the impact of your work.
  • Be an excellent manager of cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Have a strong ability to build strategies that tell stories of impact that engage people, both in individual messages and in arcs of communications over time.
  • Be a strong and consistent editor for brand, voice, clarity, and narrative.
  • Be skilled and thoughtful regarding nuanced communication related to race, gender, class, and other aspects of identity in your internal and external communications.
  • Be fluent with tools to manage email, shortcode and 10dlc SMS, websites, and analytics for each (ActionKit, Action Network, Mobile Commons, Strive/Ascend, Spoke, Prompt.io, Wordpress, or similar).

Required skills and experience:

  • 8 years of experience in digital communications and strategy, with the ability to craft compelling and impactful program strategy for online audiences.
  • 5 years of managerial experience, with a proven track record of motivating a cross-functional team of digital strategists.
  • 5 years of experience in issue-based or political advocacy.
  • Proven track record in fostering collaboration among cross-functional teams, ensuring a unified approach to achieve common goals.
  • Proficiency in implementing and managing robust tracking systems to monitor and analyze digital metrics, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
