MongoDB’s mission is to empower innovators to create, transform, and disrupt industries by unleashing the power of software and data. We enable organizations of all sizes to easily build, scale, and run modern applications by helping them modernize legacy workloads, embrace innovation, and unleash AI. Our industry-leading developer data platform, MongoDB Atlas, is the only globally distributed, multi-cloud database and is available in more than 115 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. Atlas allows customers to build and run applications anywhere—on premises, or across cloud providers. With offices worldwide and over 175,000 new developers signing up to use MongoDB every month, it’s no wonder that leading organizations, like Samsung and Toyota, trust MongoDB to build next-generation, AI-powered applications.

We’re looking for a Senior Director of Corporate Communications to lead MongoDB’s global communications efforts, serving as a key advisor to our executive team and steward of our brand reputation. This role helps drive media and analyst relations, crisis and reputation management, executive messaging, social and influencer marketing, and works closely with internal communications and investor relations teams. The ideal candidate possesses in-depth knowledge of the tech industry and a proven track record of leading high-impact communication programs that protect and enhance the company’s market position.

We're looking to speak with candidates who are based in New York City or San Francisco for our hybrid working model.

Key responsibilities:
  • Amplify Messaging: Partner closely with Product Marketing, Developer Relations, Product, and Sales to translate and amplify product and technical messaging into compelling narratives for media, analysts, executives, social channels, and influencers. Work closely with Investor Relations and Internal Communications to ensure consistent messaging across all stakeholders.
  • Execute & Roll Out Messaging: Own the dissemination of key messages across all external channels, including PR, executive communications, analyst relations, social media, influencer marketing, executive keynotes, and digital platforms.
  • Media & Analyst Relations: Build and drive a robust media relations program that secures impactful press coverage and manages industry analyst relationships. Train and support spokespeople to represent MongoDB with confidence and consistency.
  • Strategic Communications Leadership: Contribute to a unified communications approach encompassing PR, AR, internal and crisis communications, executive messaging, and social media to ensure consistent, coherent, and compelling storytelling.
  • Influencer & Social Media Strategy: Develop and execute influencer marketing and social media strategies that amplify MongoDB’s voice, expand reach, and engage target audiences globally.
  • Thought Leadership: Collaborate with executives to craft visionary insights on data, AI, and technology, positioning MongoDB as an industry pioneer.
  • Crisis & Reputation Management: Support preparedness and response efforts for reputation and crisis communications, advising leadership and protecting the brand.
  • Internal & Investor Communications Partnership: Work closely with internal communications and investor relations teams to ensure alignment and consistent messaging.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Manage and develop a diverse global communications team, fostering a culture of strategic excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Metrics & Operating Rhythm: Establish KPIs, rigorously track progress, optimize strategies, and regularly report the impact of communication to the executive team.
We’re excited about you because:
  • Messaging & Communications Excellence: Proven track record of developing and executing innovative messaging and communication strategies that break the mold and deliver measurable business impact.
  • Media Relations Mastery: Expertise in crafting and leading media relations strategies, cultivating strong relationships with key media, providing executive media training, and managing end-to-end media operations.
  • Proven Experience: 12+ years in communications within technology, preferably cloud, database, or AI, with hands-on experience leading transformational communications at scale ($2B+ revenue and publicly traded companies).
  • Leadership & Influence: Success in leading and inspiring both direct and adjacent teams, with demonstrated ability to influence cross-functionally and at all organizational levels.
  • Cultural Alignment: Embodies MongoDB’s growth mindset and leadership principles, with a passion for innovation, relentless customer focus, and a collaborative spirit.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
