Who are we hiring?

The Senior Director, Communications position will lead high-impact public relations and communications initiatives across Sphere. This role is responsible for executing a comprehensive communications strategy across original experiences, creative content, brand initiatives, marketing partnerships, brand events, community initiatives, continued expansion, and more. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications, the Senior Director serves as a trusted strategic advisor and plays a critical role in managing issues that impact Sphere’s businesses or public figures. This includes collaborating with senior leaders across the business to craft effective communications strategies, shape our public relations with consumers, engage with media, and develop rapid response plans to protect the company and its interests.

What will you do? 

  • Partner directly with the VP, Communications to develop and lead public relations and communications strategies for Sphere.
  • Own the planning and execution of sustained communications campaigns that drive consistent, high-quality coverage with consumer, entertainment, tech, and trade press – manage and respond to incoming media inquiries.
  • Proactively identify and secure high-impact speaking engagements, interviews, and press opportunities to elevate the company’s executive leadership.
  • Work closely with communications and other counterparts across the company, including in Sphere Studios, marketing, partnerships, brand events and sales, to support key business objectives.
  • Oversee the development of press materials including PR plans, press releases, media alerts, pitches, messaging frameworks, briefing docs, and media lists. 
  • Manage external agencies, when needed, to support major initiatives and ensure alignment.
  • Cultivate, maintain and support a high-performing communications team.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 10+ years relevant public relations and media experience with strong media relationships at top-tier outlets across entertainment with a track record of delivering results quickly and accurately.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Trusted advisor to senior executives, confident operating in high-pressure environments that require sound judgment, discretion, and rapid response.
  • Proven expertise in leading strategic communications, executive messaging, major announcements, and crisis management with speed, precision, and consistency.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen with the ability to align communication priorities across functions while maintaining focus on accuracy and impact.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail; adept at managing multiple, simultaneous projects without sacrificing quality.
  • Effective collaborator within complex, matrixed organizations, known for decisiveness and follow-through.
  • Proficient in the development of integrated communications plans as well as crisis communications. 

Special Requirements

  • Based in New York, NY or Burbank, CA with regular travel.
  • Ability to work late nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.

Pay Range
$180,000$200,000 USD
