The Role

Wpromote is seeking an experienced Senior Director of Accounting (Contract) to provide leadership and continuity during a maternity leave. This is a hands-on, high-impact role responsible for overseeing key accounting operations across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable in a fast-paced advertising agency environment.

This leader will step in immediately to manage critical month-end close activities, oversee a small but mighty team, ensure accuracy across media and pass-through billing, and act as a steady escalation point for internal stakeholders and external vendors. The ideal candidate brings deep agency accounting experience, fluency in NetSuite and Mediaocean, and the confidence to operate independently while partnering closely with senior leadership.

This role will report directly to the SVP, Controller and is expected to run 6–9 months to start, with potential extension up to 12 months based on business needs. This role will be 40 hours per week with up to 10 hours of OT a week during month-end close.

The hourly rate for this role will be up to $100/hr, based on consideration of a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, education and certifications, competitive benchmarks, scope of responsibility, market dynamics, geographic location, and respective state’s salary threshold for exempt employees. At Wpromote, pay ranges are subject to change and are based on specific market medians for similar jobs according to third-party salary benchmark surveys. Individual pay within that range can vary due to skills, experience, and available budget.

You Will Be

  • Providing day-to-day leadership and oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring continuity and accuracy during the coverage period.
  • Managing and supporting 3 direct reports, offering clear direction, prioritization, and escalation support.
  • Owning and overseeing month-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Ensuring accurate pass-through billing, media accounting, and reconciliation across clients and vendors.
  • Acting as the primary accounting escalation point for internal stakeholders, vendors, and media partners.
  • Partnering closely with the SVP, Controller to maintain operational rigor, deadlines, and reporting standards.
  • Ensuring proper use and integrity of NetSuite and Mediaocean across AP, AR, and media workflows.
  • Reviewing and approving invoices, client billing, and payment runs, ensuring compliance with agency policies and contractual requirements.
  • Supporting audit requests, documentation, and process questions as needed.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with media vendors and resolving discrepancies efficiently and professionally.
  • Identifying risks, issues, or breakdowns early and proactively recommending solutions.
  • Stepping into a visible leadership role across Finance, Client Services, and Operations to ensure smooth cross-functional collaboration.

You Must Have

  • 8–12+ years of accounting experience, within an advertising agency or media services environment.
  • Proven experience across both AP and AR, including media and pass-through accounting.
  • Hands-on expertise with NetSuite and Mediaocean 
  • Experience managing and developing teams, including direct oversight of junior and mid-level accounting professionals.
  • Strong understanding of media billing, vendor management, reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting month-end close in a complex, deadline-driven environment.
  • Comfort operating autonomously while partnering closely with senior finance leadership.
  • Ability to quickly assess processes, identify gaps, and maintain consistency during leadership transitions.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to confidently handle escalations with internal and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
