Job Description:

Reporting to the VP of Architecture, the Senior DevOps Engineer is a core member of the Freestar Platform Team, responsible for the reliability, security, efficiency, and evolution of our global, customer-facing infrastructure. The Platform Team's mission is to enable our product and engineering teams to deliver high-quality software rapidly and reliably by providing a scalable, automated, and secure foundation.

In this role, you will join a team of skilled engineers to work on strategic projects to enhance system reliability and efficiency, and increase deployment velocity across the organization. You will also work in close collaboration with Engineering and Product teams to provide cross-functional infrastructure and operational support.

Our ideal candidate thrives on solving complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment, supporting multiple projects, and is committed to maintaining high technical standards through automated workflows and the engineering of a resilient, scalable foundation.

Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Functional Support: Act as the primary technical point of contact for Engineering and Product teams, providing daily operational support for Platform requests.
  • Infrastructure & Cloud Management: Design, deploy, and manage scalable services on GCP.
  • Automation & CI/CD: Build and optimize repeatable deployment pipelines and deployment blueprints.
  • Cost Optimization: Monitor cloud expenditure and implement right-sizing initiatives to support departmental cost-reduction goals.
  • Reliability & Monitoring: Maintain comprehensive monitoring and alerting frameworks to ensure high availability and lead rapid incident response for critical systems.
  • Security & Compliance: Execute stack-hardening tasks, including vulnerability scanning, access control audits, and secrets detection.
  • System Maintenance: Manage the ongoing updates, patching, and maintenance of platform components.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5–7 years in DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Engineering with a focus on high-availability production environments.
  • Cloud Expertise: 3+ years of deep, hands-on experience with major cloud providers (GCP preferred, AWS, or Azure), including cloud architecture, resiliency, and disaster recovery.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Expert-level proficiency with Terraform and a "policy as code" mindset.
  • Containers & Orchestration: Advanced knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes, including image management and cluster administration.
  • Programming & Scripting: Strong fundamentals in Python, Shell, or equivalent languages for automation and tool building.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Tooling: Proven experience building and maintaining modern pipelines (GitHub Actions, JFrog, CloudBuild)
  • Networking & SecOps: Solid understanding of cloud networking (VPCs, Firewalls) and security practices, including IAM, secrets management, and vulnerability scanning.

We’d also like to see:

  • A systematic, detail-oriented approach to troubleshooting and critical system examination.
  • The ability to act independently and take ownership of technical tasks with minimal guidance.
  • Previous experience in a high-scale, fast-paced environment (AdTech or Fintech experience is a plus).
  • Experience with AI-driven automation, such as integrating AI agents into DevOps workflows, automated incident summaries, or leveraging LLMs to enhance developer productivity.

What you can expect in return:

  • Full-Time, salaried position
  • Generous Flexible Time Away policy
  • Fully remote company, with collaborative asynchronous teamwork.
  • The opportunity to be part of something BIG

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
