Who is Risk Labs?

Risk Labs is the foundation and core team behind UMA, and Across. The Risk Labs team operates as one cohesive (amazing!) culture, but focuses on two core protocols, UMA and Across. UMA and Across are decentralized protocols governed by community members across the globe in DAOs, and are supported by Risk Labs Foundation. UMA's optimistic oracle (OO) can record any verifiable truth or data onto a blockchain. Across is leading the future of interoperability with its frontier intents based architecture.

We are a remote-first, globally distributed team focused on building infrastructure that pushes crypto forward.

Why This Role Exists:

We are hiring a Senior DevOps engineer to drive the evolution of Risk Labs operations and development processes. You’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of an AI-forward culture to automate what was previously not automatable and rethink operations in light of recent shifts in development. Your work will also protect the UMA and Across protocols from the highly adversarial blockchain environment. You’ll work closely with a team of platform engineers who are all focused on building internal tooling and running vital protocol operations.

What You’ll Own:
  • Our Cloud Stack: work with the engineering team to design the infrastructure to power our products and protocols. This will involve both system architecture and design as well as building out terraform and CD.

  • Security and Permissioning: work with the leadership team to build out and scale our security systems and processes to protect our company, products, and protocols from attackers. Rather than manually managing permissions, you will own the automation of our security stack.

  • Continuous Integration and Deployment: design CI/CD processes that are resilient, scalable, and useful. You will be responsible for the scaffolding that the engineering team builds within.

  • Alerting and Monitoring: create monitoring systems that track important metrics and logs in a highly legible and accessible way, while making it easy for engineers to be alerted on anomalous behaviors.

  • Internal Tooling: invent internal tooling to solve problems proactively, as you notice common needs and pain points.

What Success Looks Like:
  • Engineering team is able to ship new projects quickly.

  • Internal systems are highly observable and reliable by default.

  • Team has clarity on who is allowed to do what and why. Permissioning is rarely a blocker to progress.

  • Internal tools are introduced early and often to ease friction points and enhance team productivity.

  • Risk Labs retains its impeccable security record.

Skills & ExperienceRequired
  • 2+ years as a sysadmin, systems engineer, site reliability engineer, reliability engineer, or related role in a professional setting

  • Experience building infrastructure in a cloud native development environment using Terraform

  • Experience managing data, key storage, private information management best practices

  • Fluency in bash or python, with some experience in other languages

  • Passion for automation and designing tech stacks

  • Enthusiasm for AI-enabled workflows

Nice to Have
  • Deep experience with GCP

  • Experience managing medium sized Github organizations with many repositories

  • Experience with web3 security, specifically in managing private keys, shared wallets, multisigs, etc

Tech Stack

Our tech stack: Terraform, Bash, Python, Typescript, GCP, Solidity, Node.js, React, Vercel

  • Will pay in stablecoins or fiat

  • Philosophies for a culture that show we care: Take vacation when you need it, family care, training and development (just to name a few)

  • 100% remote, which means we encourage you to create the work environment that you thrive in

  • At least two team wide offsites a year

Closing

Studies show that women and people of colour are less likely to apply unless they meet every qualification. Risk Labs is committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
