About the Team

HubSpot’s Design Systems team builds the foundations for a world-class user experience. Supporting over 2,400 product managers, UXers, and engineers, the system includes 350+ coded components, 300+ illustrations, robust documentation, and a flexible contribution model. We’re a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to shaping the future of our design system that will enable our HubSpot products to be more consistent, and customer-centric with a focus on high-quality and driving customer and business value. We come from diverse backgrounds and like to talk about design thinking and push the boundaries of what is possible.

About the Role

We’re looking for a systems-minded, product-focused designer to work on our Design System with expertise in accessibility (a11y) and internationalization (i18n) to help build and scale inclusive, globally usable design elements, components, patterns, and guidelines. This role blends technical design acumen with a human-centered approach, ensuring that our designed experiences serve all HubSpot customers—regardless of ability, culture, or geography.

In this role, you will:
  • Ensure any new components and design layouts are WCAG 2.1/2.2+ compliant and localization-ready by default (RTL, date/time formats, pluralization, etc.).
  • Create a roadmap that will optimize our product experiences for accessible behaviors (keyboard navigation, ARIA roles, focus states)
  • Help define component behaviors, guidelines, and usage best practices that accommodate assistive tech and cultural variance.
  • Partner closely with our engineers, localization team, content designers, and UX design leads to align on an inclusive design strategy and vision.
  • Embed a11y and i18n into Figma libraries, tokens, and documentation; collaborate on tooling to streamline implementation with our design technologists and engineers.
  • Define contribution and governance models that include accessibility and internationalization review.
  • Drive education, audits, and workshops to embed inclusive design across the org.
  • Contribute to the exploration of design language elements that are being updated, including typography, color, iconography, data visualization, elevation, grids, sound—with a focus on a11y and i18n
  • Prototype and explore solutions using emerging tools like AI-powered design platforms.
What You’ll Tackle
  • Designing flexible but opinionated components that scale across varied use cases.
  • Maintaining high accessibility standards, especially during a design language transformation.
  • Establishing a governance model for adoption and contribution to the system.
  • Balancing complexity with usability and clear documentation.
What We’re Looking For
  • A portfolio demonstrating impactful design at scale, with a focus on accessibility and systems thinking while also showcasing strong design craft.
  • Deep knowledge of a11y (WCAG, ARIA) and i18n (Unicode, RTL, localization workflows) and stays on top of the latest updates in those standards.
  • Experience in building and documenting component libraries and token strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize, drive projects, and make data-informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills to influence cross-functional teams and leadership. You’ll be helping to evangelize accessibility internally— leading training and creating internal best practices and guidelines.
  • A curious mindset with a passion for emerging tools like Replit and Lovable to accelerate the conceptualization of ideas.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
