We're looking for a Program Manager to empower our product teams to conduct effective self-service research. In this role, you'll create and maintain the infrastructure that democratizes user research across Discord, enabling designers, product managers, and engineers to gather valuable user insights independently.

Working with Design, PM, Engineering, and other XFN partners, you’ll serve as the bridge between our product teams and research tools, developing training materials, best practices, and support systems that make user research accessible to all. This is an opportunity to build a foundational program that will scale as Discord grows.

This position is temporary and US based only.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design self-serve research systems and processes for PMs and Designers that can scale efficiently as Discord grows
  • Manage partnerships with external UXR platforms (like UserTesting.com), serving as the primary point of contact and administrator
  • Create and maintain documentation, training materials, and best practices for self-service research tools
  • Enable product team members to conduct high-quality self-service research independently
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program for democratizing user research across Discord
  • Track usage metrics and gather feedback to continuously improve the self-service research program
  • Collect feedback to ensure the self-serve tools/resources bring value to the company
  • Establish quality standards for self-service research to ensure consistency and reliability
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing across teams to maximize the value of research insights
  • Stay current on UX research tools and methodologies to recommend improvements to our tech stack

What you should have

  • 8+ years of experience in program management, research operations, or a related field
  • Experience with various tools like survey platforms, qualitative research platforms, and knowledge management systems.
  • Strong documentation and process development skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with product design teams is preferred
  • Basic understanding of UX research methodologies
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Who You Are

  • An organized and detail-oriented professional with experience in program management, operations, or a related field
  • A natural communicator who can effectively support team members with varying levels of research experience
  • Someone passionate about user research and its value in product development
  • An independent operator with experience rolling out self-serve programs at scale
  • A collaborative team player with proven experience partnering with PMs, Designers, Engineers, Researchers, and Data Scientists
  • Someone who balances maintaining standards with making research accessible

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
