Who We’re Looking For:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Design Manager with a proven track record of driving innovative, user-centric design solutions within the consumer product space. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment, partnering with cross-functional teams to balance immediate business needs with long-term product goals. This person will inspire and guide a talented team of designers to build and enhance our news product surfaces, supporting our users and shaping the future of digital media.


Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Head of Design, you will:
  • Lead and inspire a team of product designers, providing guidance, support, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Work closely with Central Design and other brand teams to ensure a consistent visual language and cohesive user experience across all Yahoo News platforms.

  • Champion a user-centered design approach, leveraging research and data insights to inform and validate design decisions.

  • Set and maintain high standards for visual and interaction design craftsmanship across all platforms.

  • Ensure that user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility are balanced to deliver cohesive and impactful experiences.

  • Create a team environment that encourages creativity, ownership, and professional excellence.

  • Define and track key metrics for the design team's success, adjusting strategies to meet evolving objectives.

  • Explore the potential of AI design tools and lead the design of AI-augmented product features.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in product design, with at least 5 years in a design leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience building and scaling design teams.

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating high standards in visual design and user-centered design practices.

  • Demonstrated expertise in fostering cross-functional collaboration.

  • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of effectively advocating for design within a larger organization.

  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive approach to evolving priorities and design challenges.

  • Empathy-driven leadership with a focus on empowering and inspiring teams.

  • Experience designing and building AI-augmented product features.

Even better:
  • Knowledge of inclusive design principles and a demonstrated commitment to creating accessible, equitable experiences.

  • Prior experience managing remote or distributed design teams, with a strong ability to foster collaboration across time zones.

  • Enthusiasm for mentoring and developing design talent at all career levels, from early-career designers to seasoned professionals.

  • Experience working with editorial teams or in a media-led environment.

The compensation for this position ranges from $143,625.00 - $299,375.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
