The Senior Database Administrator at Skydance Animation is a member of the Information Technology team and will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and advancing our database systems and services. The ideal candidate will work across the organization as a champion of DBA services and best practices and will oversee database systems, policies, and procedures to ensure the highest reliability and performance possible.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and oversee the development and administration of databases company wide on-prem and in cloud, including database services to support a next-generation Animation Pipeline
- Create data strategy artifacts such as policy, governance and instructions, capabilities descriptions, metadata implementation specifications, product format specifications, and interface description specifications
- Provide oversight of data architecture engineering, data management support, solutions, tracking efficiencies, and meeting net-centric and data-centric objectives
- Evaluate, maintain, and re-engineer existing databases to use cloud services or new, more efficient database techniques and infrastructure
- Produce and prepare activity and progress reports regarding database status, health, and management
- Create Indexes, Clusters, Snapshots, Views, data dictionaries and other database objects, as well as manage Rollback Segments, Data File Size, and all the other aspects related to performance tuning
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy to ensure that data is accurate, consistent, and up-to-date, and implementing data validation rules and data quality controls
- Create, implement, and maintain database systems logging and performance monitoring solutions/services
- Setup database authentication strategy and profiles such as username / password, PKI, LDAP, etc.
- Ensure Patch and Vulnerability management of enterprise database systems. Identify and correct potential database service security weaknesses
- Create backup and recovery plans and procedures based on industry best practices, including testing to ensure recovery is successful
- Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues related to databases, such as system crashes, data corruption, or connectivity problems
- Plan and executes database upgrades and migrations to database software, hardware, and infrastructure, and migrating data to new systems as necessary
- Provide database-related support and training to technology teams, production teams, and end-users
- Maintain documentation of database structures, procedures, and policies, and ensures that documentation is kept current and up to date
- Create work products such as entity relationship diagrams, data flow diagrams, structure charts, data structure diagrams, and pseudo code to properly evangelize and explain Database services to Engineers, Leadership, and other Studio Teams
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and work with team members to implement efficiency
- Act in a senior capacity, providing direction and oversight; additionally, act as a mentor to junior team members
Requirements
- 8+ years installing and maintaining one or more of the following RDBMS: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, Mongo
- 8+ years managing database schemas
- Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices
- Experience with IaC and managing databases within common cloud providers and use of related services like AWS’s RDS or SQL Server in Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of Power BI, a plus
- Proficiency in Postgres - Administration, Performance and Tuning
- Understanding and ability to work with CI/CD Pipelines
- Linux/Unix knowledge
- Skilled in scripting languages such as shell, python, a plus
- Experience in Media and Entertainment, VFX, or Animation Industry, a plus
- Spanish language skills, a plus
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, including strong technical writing and interpersonal skills
- Must be available to work outside of business hours as needed for maintenance/ critcal outages
The compensation for this exempt position in the tri-state area is $135,000-175,000 annually. The rate offered may vary based on the candidate’s location, qualifications, experience and relevant expertise, among other factors. The range indicated is for base salary only and does not reflect the total compensation package, including bonus, benefits, etc.
