The MNTN Targeting Group helps brands reach the right customers with software that turns petabytes of data into meaningful audience targeting strategies. Our engineers, data scientists and analysts build software that serves content to millions of people every day.  You'll be joining the team working on MNTN Matched, our flagship machine learning product that is a critical revenue driver for the business. As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll be deeply involved in developing and improving the core models and systems that power our targeting products. Your work will directly influence the quality, efficiency, and innovation of our targeting platform.

What You'll Bring:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in data science or applied research, ideally in large-scale, high-throughput environments.
  • You’ve led impactful work in areas like A/B testing, experimentation frameworks, causal inference, look-alike modeling, machine learning, or ranking systems.
  • Proven ability to mentor other data scientists, influence technical direction, and set best practices around experimentation, modeling, and analytical rigor.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to build scalable, production-ready data pipelines and model workflows.
  • Deep experience with tools like Jupyter, Airflow, dbt, and version control workflows (Git/GitHub).
  • Strong background in working with large-scale distributed systems and data warehouses, including BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, Hive, or similar.
  • Experience deploying and monitoring machine learning models in production, including model validation, performance tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with ML frameworks and libraries like scikit-learn, XGBoost, LightGBM, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Strong communication skills—you can translate complex analyses and technical concepts into actionable insights for cross-functional partners across product, engineering, and business teams.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience in ad tech, growth analytics, personalization, or performance marketing
  • Comfort working with real-time or near-real-time data pipelines

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and build a robust marketing platform that reaches the right audience, anywhere, anytime
  • Build high volume services that are reliable at scale
  • Develop big data solutions using open source frameworks
  • Collaborate with and explain complex technical issues to Product and Project Leads
  • Optimize and enhance existing products

  • Experience writing SQL queries and designing database tables
  • Python experience (preferred)
  • Knowledge of modern design patterns

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
