About the role

We’re looking to bring on our first Senior Data Engineer to lead the buildout and on-going development of the data function here at Mesa. You’ll play a critical role in establishing best practices, architecting new solutions, and implementing tooling to empower everyone within Mesa to make data driven decisions. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll work with cross-functional stakeholders to standardize metrics for usage across reporting, experimentation and ad-hoc analysis. This position will require a strategic and technical leader with experience scaling a hyper growth startup.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Lead data engineering at Mesa by developing & operationalizing scalable and reliable data pipelines
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional requirements
  • Work with product and cross functional business stakeholders to enable to visualization layers empowering everyone at Mesa to make data led decisions
  • Drive technical delivery - everything from architectural design to development to QA
  • Participate in customer discovery efforts and initiatives as our beta users help us refine our product

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering and operationalizing data pipelines with large and complex datasets
  • Experience with data modeling, ETL, and developing patterns for efficient data governance.
  • Experience with manipulating large-scale structured and unstructured data
  • Experience working with batch and stream processing
  • Strong proficiency with Typescript is a must
  • Strong with SQL
  • Experience using dashboarding tools such as: Mode, Tableau, Looker
  • You’re passionate about event-driven architecture, microservices, data reliability, and observability
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, handle ambiguity, and have strong product ownership mindset
  • Must love dogs 🐶

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience integrating with fintech SaaS products such as Plaid and Marqeta
  • Experience in the payment systems, banking systems
  • Experience in Expo, NestJS
