THE ROLE

As Thrive Market continues to scale rapidly, we're seeking a Manager of Product Analytics to lead our product analytics function and drive data-informed decision making across our digital experience. You'll manage a team of talented product analysts while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Growth teams to unlock insights that shape our product strategy and member experience.

This role combines people leadership with hands-on analytical work, requiring someone who can both guide a team to excellence and dive deep into complex analyses when needed. You'll build the frameworks, processes, and culture that enable our product organization to make confident, data-driven decisions at speed. If you're passionate about developing analytical talent while driving meaningful business impact through data, this role offers an exceptional opportunity to shape how a fast-growing company leverages analytics for competitive advantage.

We're seeking a Senior Data Applications Engineer to join our Data Applications Platform team. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, software development, and business process automation—building Python-based data applications that solve critical business challenges across finance, merchandising, operations, and more.

This is a senior, full-stack data engineering role for someone who loves building solutions with real business impact. You'll create data applications with embedded business logic, encoding complex business rules into production-grade software that meets enterprise compliance standards. This isn't traditional "move data from A to B" pipeline work—you'll architect solutions that automate business processes, support accounting close, enable merchandising analytics, optimize inventory workflows, and power other mission-critical functions.

You'll partner with our Staff Engineer to design and implement cloud-native data applications using modern tools (Snowflake, Astronomer, dbt, Fivetran) and the platform foundations that enable rapid application development. You'll collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integrations, high data quality, and reliable operational reporting. You'll drive technical decisions, establish best practices, and mentor teammates as the team grows.

We're looking for a solution-oriented builder with high learning aptitude—someone who can translate complex business requirements into elegant technical solutions, adapt quickly to new tools, and operate with significant autonomy while partnering effectively with stakeholders at all levels. While experience with finance and accounting domains are preferred, we encourage you to review the full qualifications below and apply if you feel like a strong fit for the role.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Architect and develop Python-based data applications that automate business processes and encode complex business logic
  • Translate complex business processes into scalable, maintainable technical solutions
  • Design and implement orchestrated workflows for multi-system integrations using modern orchestration frameworks
  • Write performant, production-grade SQL for data transformations, validations, and business logic
  • Develop data quality checks and validation frameworks ensuring data integrity across operational systems
  • Own end-to-end delivery from requirements gathering through production support
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across cloud based systems and data pipelines
  • Craft customized internal tools and interfaces for business users to streamline and automate processes
  • Operate within proper engineering environments with separation between development, staging, and production
  • Drive code review processes and establish high engineering standards across the team
  • Create technical documentation including architecture diagrams and system integration patterns
  • Implement robust error handling, monitoring, and automated testing frameworks
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders across finance, merchandising, and operations
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to align on data models and optimal data structures
  • Provide on-call support to ensure system reliability and rapid resolution of production issues
  • Guide technical approach and provide mentorship to junior engineers as the team scales
QUALIFICATIONSRequired
  • 5+ years of strong Python proficiency for data processing and production application development
  • Advanced SQL including complex queries, performance optimization, window functions, and CTEs
  • Cloud data warehouse experience with Snowflake strongly preferred (BigQuery or Redshift acceptable)
  • Meticulous attention to detail, particularly for financially-sensitive or compliance-critical work
  • Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
  • Experience designing data quality validation frameworks and automated testing patterns
  • Proven ability to independently debug and resolve complex issues across multiple systems
  • Experience with Git workflows, code reviews, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of proper environment separation (dev/staging/prod) and deployment best practices
  • Ability to operate in highly governed environments meeting compliance and audit standards
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS strongly preferred) including S3 and compute services
  • Strong ownership mentality and systematic problem-solving with ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent communication abilities to bridge technical and business audiences at all levels
  • High aptitude to rapidly learn new technologies, tools, and complex business processes
Preferred
  • Data transformation frameworks (dbt) with experience developing complex transformation logic
  • Data replication and integration tools (Fivetran, Airbyte, or similar)
  • Infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation) for managing cloud resources
  • Additional AWS services experience (Lambda, Kinesis, EventBridge, Step Functions, Glue, etc.)
  • CI/CD pipeline tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) with hands-on implementation experience
  • Internal tool frameworks (Retool, Streamlit, Gradio) for building business user interfaces
  • API development and integration experience including REST, GraphQL, and webhook patterns
  • Data observability and lineage tools (Elementary, Great Expectations, Metaphor, etc.)
  • Experience with data architectures including data warehouses, data marts, and operational data stores
  • Finance, accounting, or financial close process experience
  • Retail, merchandising, or inventory operations background
  • E-commerce, subscription business, or high-growth startup experience
  • Experience with enterprise compliance frameworks, SOX controls, or audit requirements
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior and mid-level engineers
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related technical field
BELONG TO A BETTER COMPANY
  • Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision, life and disability)
  • Competitive salary (DOE) + equity

  • 9 Observed Holidays
  • Flexible Paid Time Off
  • Subsidized ClassPass Membership with access to fitness classes and wellness and beauty experiences

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
