Senior Data Analyst / BI Specialist

📍 Remote | Full-Time | $50k-$75k / year

About Mood

Mood is not your average e-commerce company—we’re building the future of legal hemp THC products in the U.S. through a digital-first, customer-obsessed approach. We’re growing fast, powered by a team that’s just as passionate about building a seamless, personalized customer experience as they are about transforming the cannabis industry. From our rapidly expanding product catalog to our innovative use of web analytics, machine learning & AI, data is at the core of every decision we make.

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our data-driven crew and bring serious firepower to our decision-making. If you live for diving into large, complex datasets, spotting patterns others miss, and telling stories with data that spark real business action to drive exceptional outcomes—you’ll feel right at home here.

This role is perfect for someone who’s as comfortable writing complex SQL queries as they are walking a marketing team through their newest funnel drop-off chart. You’ll help turn our data—from web, sales, subscriptions, customer behavior, and more—into insights that shape strategy across growth, operations, product, and beyond.

What You’ll Do

Data Analysis & Transformation

  • Work hands-on with large, diverse datasets across e-commerce, web/behavioral tracking, subscription, marketing, and AI/ML systems.
  • Use SQL (BigQuery) to extract, clean, and structure data for reporting and deeper analysis.
  • Build dynamic dashboards and reports in Looker Studio to monitor KPIs and drive daily operations.
  • Help define and maintain scalable, accurate data pipelines in collaboration with our data engineering and ML teams.
  • Leverage tools like Tableau or other BI platforms for deeper visual exploration when needed.

Data Storytelling & Business Impact

  • Go beyond the numbers—translate your findings into crisp, compelling narratives for internal stakeholders.
  • Present clear, actionable recommendations that help drive strategic decisions across product, marketing, and CX.
  • Tailor your communication style to audiences across technical and non-technical teams.

Proactive Exploration & Insights

  • Be curious—always dig deeper. Identify new opportunities, hidden bottlenecks, or overlooked trends.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to brainstorm data-driven experiments or optimizations.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by thinking critically about our business model, customer journey, and how data can unlock new levers for growth.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, marketing specialists and operations leads to shape how Mood uses data across the org.
  • Deliver insights with confidence and clarity, bridging the gap between raw numbers and business strategy.
  • Help foster a data culture that values precision, transparency, and shared understanding.

What We’re Looking For: Tools & Skills

  • 5–10 years of experience in a data analysis role or equivalent.
  • Looker Studio, SQL (BigQuery): Required.
  • Tableau or similar BI tools: Nice to have.
  • E-commerce experience: A big plus—but not mandatory. Bonus points if you’ve worked with subscription or DTC businesses.
  • Thorough understanding of probability and statistics.
  • Strong communication skills, especially around data storytelling and executive reporting.
  • Proactive mindset: You don’t just answer questions—you ask better ones.
  • Detail-oriented: Accuracy and precision are second nature. *** Please put "strawberry cheesecake" in your cover letter to show you've read this :)

Why Join Mood?

  • Grow fast with us. We’re scaling rapidly—and you’ll be right in the middle of the action.
  • Shape the cannabis revolution. Help bring transparency, innovation, and sophistication to a booming industry.
  • Data is not an afterthought. It’s how we operate. You’ll have real impact, not just dashboards collecting dust.
  • Remote-first culture. Work from anywhere with a sharp, ambitious, collaborative team.
  • Cutting-edge data stack. Work alongside data scientists, CRO specialists, and a leadership team who value data as much as you do.

If you're an analytical powerhouse who loves finding signal in the noise—and want to help shape the future of hemp e-commerce—Mood is the place for you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
