Nexus is seeking a Senior Cyber Claims Specialist to join our growing team.

The Senior Cyber Claims Specialist serves as a critical liaison between our Head of Claims and capacity claims teams. This role manages the complete lifecycle of cyber insurance claims for our SME business portfolio while providing leadership, mentorship, and strategic insights to support our underwriting and claims operations.

How You Will Contribute:

Claims Management

  • Manage complex first-party and third-party cyber claims from first notice through resolution, including data breaches, ransomware, business interruption, technology E&O, and privacy liability.

  • Conduct thorough investigations using internal and external resources in compliance with Financial Lines best practices.

  • Handle high-volume caseload while maintaining quality standards and service excellence.

  • Document all claim activities, evaluate liability and damages, and maintain comprehensive claim files.

Coverage & Communication

  • Analyze cyber insurance policies, including manuscript endorsements, to determine accurate coverage positions.

  • Issue clear, empathetic coverage letters explaining policy terms and limitations to small business insureds with limited insurance knowledge.

  • Manage claims involving coverage disputes and litigation with professionalism and sound judgment.

Financial Management

  • Set and manage timely, accurate reserves based on exposure analysis throughout the claim lifecycle.

  • Focus primarily on claims with expected value at or below $100,000, escalating as appropriate.

  • Review and approve settlements within authority level; make recommendations to management for larger claims.

Vendor & Incident Response Coordination

  • Serve as primary liaison between insureds, capacity partners, defense counsel, forensic investigators, breach notification vendors, and other service providers.

  • Coordinate cyber incident response efforts and guide insureds through the breach response process.

  • Oversee vendor performance and costs to ensure quality service delivery within policy limits.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with panel counsel and breach response vendors.

Strategic Collaboration

  • Partner with underwriting to provide claims insights, emerging trends, and loss data to inform risk selection and pricing.

  • Identify and communicate attack vectors, vulnerabilities, and systemic risks that could impact the underwriting portfolio.

  • Participate in large loss discussions with underwriting, product leadership, and executive management.

  • Serve as liaison between Head of Claims, capacity teams, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

Leadership & Compliance

  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to junior claims staff.

  • May manage one or more claims team members as the department grows.

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, Unfair Claims Practices Acts, and company standards.

  • Complete timely claim reports and compile ad hoc analysis as requested.

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Valid adjuster license (or ability to obtain within 90 days); additional state licensure may be required.

Skills & Experience to Be Successful:

  • 5-7+ years of dedicated experience handling complex cyber insurance claims within a carrier, brokerage, MGA, or law firm environment.

  • Deep technical understanding of cyber security principles, common attack vectors (e.g., ransomware, phishing, malware), regulatory frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA), and associated legal liabilities.

  • Deep understanding of cyber insurance products (first-party and third-party coverages).

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance coverage and contract interpretation.

  • Bachelor's degree required; a Juris Doctor (J.D.) and/or relevant advanced designation (e.g., CIPP, CPCU, etc.). (Preferred)

Pay Range

$160,000 - $200,000 Annual

The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
