With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so businesses can grow and local communities can thrive.

We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.

About this role

Faire is hiring a Senior Counsel, Privacy & Product to help our teams build and ship a global wholesale marketplace that handles data thoughtfully.  This role is ideal for a privacy expert who also loves to work directly with product teams and advise on a range of legal topics.  Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, you will partner closely with our product and engineering teams, helping them craft practical solutions to navigate legal complexity.  You will also serve as Faire Legal’s in-house privacy and data expert and play a pivotal role in the development of Faire’s data governance program, advising on emerging privacy obligations and shaping the frameworks, processes, and playbooks that protect our data at scale.

What you’ll do

  • Partner directly with Faire’s engineering, product, data, and design teams to provide practical legal guidance—across a wide range of legal domains—on product development and go-to-market strategy
  • Act as a senior legal advisor to the business on data governance issues, including privacy, data use, information security, retention and deletion, and cross-border data flows
  • Build and mature Faire’s data governance program, designing frameworks and processes, supporting implementation, and driving improvements as we learn what works
  • Track developments in global privacy laws and translate them into actionable guidance for the business
  • Draft and maintain privacy policies, notices, standards, playbooks, and training that scale good decision-making across the company

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and an active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 5+ years of legal experience at a law firm, in-house, or both, including substantive privacy work
  • Deep expertise in global privacy law, including EU and UK GDPR, CCPA and other state laws, and emerging frameworks
  • Experience counseling advertising product teams and/or online marketplaces is a plus
  • Experience with litigation or regulator engagement is a plus
  • Actively experimenting with AI in legal work, and excited to go deeper
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to provide risk-calibrated and solution-focused advice to product and engineering teams
  • Scrappy and resourceful – when something needs to get done, you find a way to make it happen

Salary Range

San Francisco: the pay range for this role is $196,000 to $269,500 per year.

This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Hybrid Faire employees currently go into the office 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third flex day of their choosing (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday). Additionally, hybrid in-office roles will have the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 weeks per year. Specific Workplace and Information Technology positions may require onsite attendance 5 days per week as will be indicated in the job posting.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
