About Rubrik

Rubrik is the leader in data security, helping organizations achieve cyber resilience through our Rubrik Security Cloud platform. We protect data, detect threats, and enable rapid recovery for over 6,000 customers worldwide. Our mission is to secure the world's data.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Counsel, Marketing Legal to serve as the primary legal partner for Rubrik's Marketing, Customer Transformation (CXO), and Go-to-Market teams. This role will support all legal matters related to marketing campaigns, sales enablement, and pipeline generation activities — including support for our SDR organization and broader sales outreach initiatives.

This is a high-visibility, business-facing role requiring someone who can move quickly, exercise sound judgment, and build trusted relationships across the organization. You will initially report to the Deputy General Counsel, Corporate.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as the go-to legal advisor for the Marketing, CXO and Go-to-Market teams on all legal matters, including advertising, promotions, events, sales enablement and customer and prospect communications
  • Create the legal architecture for new market entries, product launches, or channel expansions
  • Design and implement scalable legal frameworks that accelerate go-to-market velocity while managing enterprise risk
  • Review and advise on marketing campaigns, collateral, website content, press releases, case studies, and customer testimonials
  • Provide guidance on FTC advertising compliance, including substantiation requirements, endorsement guidelines, and disclosures
  • Advise on privacy-in-marketing issues, including email marketing, cookies, tracking technologies, and compliance with CAN-SPAM, CCPA, GDPR, and other applicable laws
  • Support comparative advertising initiatives, ensuring claims are accurate, substantiated, and legally defensible
  • Counsel on trademark matters, including brand usage, co-branding, and third-party IP clearance
  • Draft, review, and negotiate marketing-related terms, including sponsorship agreements; advertising/marketing agency agreements; event and promotional terms; contests and sweepstakes; and related website and online terms.
  • Partner with the SDR organization and sales teams on legal issues related to outbound prospecting, lead generation, and sales outreach compliance
  • Develop and maintain self-service  sales and marketing legal guidelines, playbooks, and training materials to enable teams to move quickly on routine matters
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, IP, Privacy, Commercial, and Corporate teams on integrated initiatives
What You'll Bring
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. state
  • 8+ years of relevant legal experience advising on marketing, advertising, or commercial matters, preferably with in-house experience at a technology company
  • Strong knowledge of FTC advertising regulations, including the FTC Act, Endorsement Guides, and related enforcement trends
  • Experience with privacy laws as they apply to marketing (CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CCPA, GDPR); ability to collaborate effectively with a Data Privacy team
  • Familiarity with comparative advertising standards and trademark law
  • Proven ability to work closely with business teams, translate legal concepts into practical guidance, and drive decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound business judgment with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives
  • Self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, high-growth environment
  • "Growth mindset" and capability to act as a strategic business partner who gets to yes' by providing creative, risk-adjusted solutions rather than just identifying legal blockers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a B2B enterprise SaaS or cybersecurity company
  • Familiarity with sales and marketing outreach compliance (e.g., cold calling/emailing regulations)
  • Experience building scalable legal processes and self-service resources for marketing teams
Why Rubrik
  • Join a mission-driven company at the forefront of data security
  • Work alongside a collaborative, high-caliber legal team
  • Hybrid work environment with flexibility
  • Competitive compensation and benefits

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
