The Senior Cost Accountant will manage product costing, support manufacturing operations, conduct variance analysis, and enhance systems for cost accuracy.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cost Accountant to support a rapidly growing biotechnology organization. This role plays a key part in driving accurate product costing, supporting manufacturing operations, and improving financial visibility across a dynamic and purpose-driven environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced in cost accounting within a manufacturing or life sciences setting.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and analyze standard costs, inventory valuations, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
Perform monthly cost accounting close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Partner with manufacturing, supply chain, and FP&A teams to understand production activities, cost drivers, and operational performance.
Support general ledger activities, including accruals, account reconciliations, and assisting with monthly and quarterly close processes.
Monitor and report on purchase price variances, manufacturing variances, scrap, and labor/overhead allocations.
Support annual standard cost updates and periodic cost rollups.
Assist in forecasting cost impacts and developing cost models to support decision-making.
Participate in cycle counts, physical inventories, and internal control assessments.
Enhance systems, tools, and processes to increase accuracy and efficiency across cost accounting functions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
4–7+ years of experience in cost accounting in manufacturing environments.
Strong understanding of standard costing, BOMs, routings, and inventory accounting.
Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and advanced Excel.
Excellent analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment with high attention to detail.
