Vast is looking for a Senior Coordinator, People Business Partner, reporting to the Senior Manager, People Business Partners, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. 

This will be a full-timenon-exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide day-to-day proactive, high-quality operational support to People Business Partners (PBPs) and the Employee Relations Manager (ER Manager), ensuring seamless daily HR operations and contributing to strategic people initiatives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for routine employee inquiries, exercising sound judgment to resolve standard issues and escalating complex or sensitive matters to PBPs or the Employee Relations Manager as appropriate.
  • Own employee lifecycle workflow including offboarding logistics, internal transfers, and job changes, while identifying and implementing opportunities for workflow and process improvement
  • Assist the Employee Relations Manager with employee relations intake, case tracking, audit-ready documentation, and follow-up coordination to ensure timely and compliant resolution.
  • Maintain confidential records related to employee relations matters, exercising sound judgment and ensuring sensitive information is handled appropriately
  • Draft and prepare clear, consistent employee-facing communications and templates for PBPs and the ER Manager, including performance documentation, policy reminders, and corrective action materials.
  • Lead quarterly census audits and contribute to compliance activities, including wage & hour reviews and other periodic regulatory requirements
  • Assist with HR reporting and analytics for People initiatives, helping identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve decision-making
  • Track project plans, timelines, dependencies and deliverables; coordinate with stakeholders company wide
  • Support and at times lead HR projects aimed at improving operational efficiency, employee experience, and process scalability (e.g., policy rollouts, engagement programs, systems enhancements)
  • Support training and program implementation (e.g., manager 101 training, compliance training, performance management cycles)
  • Maintain and continuously improve the library of SOPs, templates, workflows, etc.
  • Create and maintain templates and workflows that increase consistency, clarity, and speed across HR processes
  • Own the ongoing maintenance and optimization of the People team’s Confluence page, ensuring information is accessible, accurate, and updated regularly
  • Serve as the primary coordinator for company-wide contractor management, including maintaining accurate contractor records, partnering with PBPs to assess role necessity, managing onboarding and offboarding, and collaborating with Supply Chain, PeopleOps, IT, and other teams to ensure seamless execution

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 + years of progressive HR experience (Generalist, HR Coordinator, HR Operations, or similar)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Practical experience interpreting and applying HR policies across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding processes
  • In‑depth working knowledge of California employment regulations, with the ability to ensure compliance in daily HR operations
  • Ability to work onsite in Long Beach, CA
  • May be required to travel on occasion to our Hawthorne and Mojave locations
  • Hands‑on experience providing support for employee relations matters, including documentation, follow‑up actions, and maintaining confidential records in accordance with organizational and legal standards
  • Strong organizational skills and project coordination or management experience
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities at once
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and Google Suite

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience supporting HR Business Partners in a fast-growing, high-performance or startup environment
  • Exposure to investigations, ER case management, and compliance practices
  • Experience with HR reporting and dashboards (Excel/Google Sheets, HRIS reporting tools)
  • Demonstrate strong follow-through and execution; attention to detail and operational excellence
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple stakeholders at all levels including senior leadership and C-level
  • Familiarity with contracts
  • HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) is a plus

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.

Pay Range: 

  • People Business Partner Coordinator II: $30.47/hr - $43.25/hr
  • Senior Coordinator, People Business Partners: $33.90/hr - $48.12/hr

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
