The role:

Are you a skilled editor? Can you rattle off 20 catchy headlines at the drop of a hat, rework the structure of any article, and spot a typo from across the room? And can you do all that while also skillfully optimizing content to dominate the rankings for competitive, high-intent searches?

If so, we need you! We are hiring a Sr. Content Editor to join the content marketing team here at Apollo, working with our world-class team of writers, marketers, video editors, creators, salespeople, and strategists.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for creating a library of high-ranking content that actually helps sales and marketing professionals grow their businesses. You’ll also be building our contributor program from the ground up, sourcing and managing dynamic columnists from our engaged community, partners, and employees. You’ll be responsible for helping to shape their ideas, serving as the editorial yin to their point-of-view yang.

We’re looking for a top-notch editor and content creator who can not only craft publication-level multimedia content, but can also build an audience and a distribution plan (put the “marketing” in “content marketing”).

Reporting to the Director of Content Marketing, this role is ideal for a seasoned content creator/marketer who knows what great content looks like, how to make it at scale, and how to mentor writers of all skill levels to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Concept, create, and promote insights-driven, search-optimized articles
  • Edit all search content for clarity, substance, point of view, and tone of voice, ensuring every single piece we publish meets our highest standards
  • Coordinate with SEO to prioritize the content roadmap and create highly editorialized content that aligns with the overall strategy, converts at a high rate, and drives high-value traffic
  • Coordinate with Director of Content and the Content Marketing Manager on monthly editorial slate, newsletter topics, and overall distribution and health of Magazine
  • Collaborate with the growth and demand gen teams to optimize content conversion rates
  • Create a roster of columnists, working with the community and social teams to identify customers, influencers, and internal thought leaders to write for Apollo
  • Create an editorial board of sales experts and operationalize a column-style series around their expertise
  • Own and report out on performance of Magazine content
  • With the help of the Director of Content, build out and manage bench of freelance writers as needed

Competencies:

  • 5-7+ years as a professional writer, editor, or content creator
  • 3+ years in a relevant marketing or content marketing role, preferably including at least 1-2 years in a high-growth startup environment
  • A portfolio of extraordinary content you’ve created and deployed in-market
  • Experience creating and tracking content that ranks on page one
  • A demonstrated track record of driving meaningful results for the business from your campaigns and programs
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics, search-engine optimization tools, Salesforce, Hubspot, and other critical pieces of the marketing technology stack
  • Experience building a robust content/media production workflow with customers or partners to generate content
  • Experience managing contractor and agency relationships as part of the content creation process

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
