CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we’ve expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

We're looking for a Solution Designer who can do the hardest part of consulting: walk into a complex client environment, understand what's broken, and map a credible path forward - then roll up their sleeves and design the solutions that get you there.

At CompassX, Solution Designers sit at the intersection of transformation strategy and hands-on delivery. You won't just facilitate workshops or hand off wireframes. You'll own the arc from current state assessment through future state vision to the roadmap that connects them - and then help design the individual solutions that execute against it.

This role is SoCal-based and client-facing, with a focus on our LA/OC based engagements.

What You'll Do

  • Map the Landscape: Lead current state assessments - process mapping, stakeholder discovery, pain point synthesis - to build a clear picture of where a client is and why it matters.

  • Design the Future State: Develop future state visions and transformation roadmaps that are grounded in business reality, not just best practice. Prioritize ruthlessly. Sequence work that can actually land.

  • Own Solution Design: Once the roadmap is set, design the individual solutions that deliver against it: requirements gathering, process redesign, capability definition, and handoff to delivery teams.

  • Drive Stakeholder Alignment: Facilitate workshops and working sessions with senior client stakeholders. Build trust quickly, navigate competing priorities, and get people aligned behind a direction.

  • Bridge Strategy and Execution: Be the connective tissue between what leadership wants and what the delivery team can build. Translate ambiguity into structure and structure into action.

  • Bring AI Into the Work: Use modern AI tools to accelerate discovery, synthesis, and design - and help clients understand how AI can reshape their operating model.

What You'll Bring

  • Consulting Pedigree: 5–10 years in a consulting or client-facing delivery environment. You've run complex engagements, not just supported them.

  • Transformation Design Fluency: You've mapped current and future states before. You understand business process re-engineering, capability design, and what it takes to make a roadmap defensible to a CFO.

  • Solution Design Range: You can move from the 30,000-foot roadmap down to the detailed requirements level without losing the thread. Ideally, you've touched both transformation design and solution design in the same engagement.

  • UX & Design Sensibility: Experience with service design, interaction design, or User Experience is a plus - particularly for engagements where the solution has a product or digital component.

  • Stakeholder Horsepower: You can hold a room with senior clients, facilitate a messy alignment session, and leave people feeling like progress was made.

  • AI-Forward Mindset: You actively use AI tools in your workflow and are curious about how they reshape consulting delivery and client operating models.

  • Local Presence: Based in LA or Orange County, with the ability to be on-site at client locations in the SoCal area.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with performance-based bonus
  • PTO, holidays, and sabbatical program
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Retirement plan with company match from day one
  • Learning and professional development support
  • Small-firm culture with direct access to leadership

Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX’s focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won’t just follow a path - you’ll create one.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
