Job Description:
Shield AI is seeking an exceptional Component Engineer to join the team in building our next-generation autonomous aircraft. Joining now places you at the earliest stages of development, tackling open-ended design challenges that will shape the future of autonomous flight. You will collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, CAD, Hardware Test, Reliability, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams. This is an opportunity to shape our team processes and own critical aspects of our hardware development.
What you'll do:
- Define and own the standards and process for new part requests and lifetime management of the ECAD library
- Work closely with the Electrical Engineering team to select new parts and evaluate their suitability to meet reliability, environmental, and performance requirements
- Maintain the accuracy and uniformity of the ECAD component library
- Address supply chain shortages and obsolescence problems with deviations and ECOs
- Select and define preferred vendors and part families in partnership with Supply Chain
- Engage with manufacturing and vendors as needed
- Ensure NDAA 848 compliance
- Engage with Quality Engineering in root cause investigations
Required qualifications:
- You have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Physics, or other engineering discipline
- You have 2+ years of relevant experience
- Strong technical fundamentals with component physics, reading schematics, and understanding technical datasheets
- Experience with a PLM system such as Arena or Teamcenter
- Experience with an ECAD system such as Altium
- You have a demonstrated record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others
