About the Role:

The Senior Communications & Media Strategist serves as a strategic advisor and hands-on executor who shapes and delivers integrated communications and media strategies that enable enterprise objectives, protect and enhance brand reputation, and support growth and trust in a regulated environment. The successful candidate will stay intellectually curious and actively seek context to anticipate communication needs, surface risks, and inform sound judgement in complex situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Partners closely with senior leadership to craft executive communications, govern message standards, and coordinate cross-functional storytelling, so timeliness and quality of work are paramount. This role owns earned media and reputation management programs, including proactive pitching, issues response, and review monitoring/response protocols.

  • Build and execute an annual internal communications strategy that aligns employees to company vision, values, and priorities; plan editorial calendars, cadence, and channel mix (e.g., SharePoint, Teams All-Staff, email, live forums).

  • Provide governance framework and supporting documentation for how and when to use various channels (e.g. Teams, SharePoint, email).

  • Serve as lead writer/editor for leadership messages, all-staff announcements, and key change communications; ensure clarity, consistency, and brand voice.

  • Support the CEO brand by developing multi-format CEO communication assets and recurring content series. Counsel executives on tone, timing, and potential impacts.

  • Maintain and optimize internal channels (e.g., SharePoint homepage; Teams All-Staff) for reach and engagement, including analytics and continuous improvement.

  • Integrate AI responsibly into content creation and analysis workflows.

  • Develop presentation materials and talking points for executive and enterprise meetings.

  • Lead earned media strategy and relationships with reporters, editors, and industry outlets; pitch stories that elevate the brand and support business priorities.

  • Draft, edit, and route press releases, media statements, and Q&As; ensure consistency with brand, regulatory, and risk standards.

  • Establish and enforce communication protocol for Incident Response Team (approval matrix, holding statements, post-mortems) in partnership with Risk.

  • Own the online reviews and ratings strategy (Google, Apple/Android app stores, social/business directories) with clear SLAs, escalation paths, and insights reporting. Translate insights into product, service, and journey improvements with accountable business owners.

  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure timely, brand-appropriate responses and to address root-cause drivers of negative feedback.

  • Own internal content, governance, and brand standards.

  • Coach leaders and subject-matter experts on message development, media readiness, and presentation best practices; coordinate spokesperson training.

  • Collaborate with creative/video teams to produce high-quality content for internal culture-building and community relations.

  • Develop annual plans and quarterly scorecards; track channel engagement, employee sentiment, earned media outcomes, share of voice, and review ratings/response times; translate insights into actions.

  • Act as communications owner for enterprise-wide issues requiring rapid alignment, including Incident Response Team.

  • Ensure all communications comply with applicable Federal/State regulations (e.g., BSA and bank/credit union advertising standards) and internal policies.

Position Requirements:

  • This position is Remote.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or commensurate experience is Required.

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in a Communications or Media Strategist role, partnering with C-level executives is Required.

  • 2+ years of experience building and executing internal communications strategies and managing corporate/executive communications is Required.

  • 2+ years of experience with modern communication tools and platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, email studios, media databases) is Required.

  • Demonstrated experience with media relations, issues communications, managing online reviews programs or social customer care processes is Required.
