About the Role:

The Senior Communications & Media Specialist leads the development and implementation of our internal communications strategy to inform, align, and inspire employees, while also managing external communications to foster a positive brand reputation with media partners and across online review ecosystems. This role partners closely with senior leadership to craft executive communications, govern message standards, and coordinate cross-functional storytelling. It also owns earned media and reputation management programs, including proactive pitching, issues response, and review monitoring/response protocols.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and execute an annual internal communications strategy that aligns employees to company vision, values, and priorities; plan editorial calendars, cadence, and channel mix (e.g., SharePoint, Teams All-Staff, email, live forums).

  • Serve as lead writer/editor for leadership messages, all-staff announcements, and key change communications; ensure clarity, consistency, and brand voice.

  • Maintain and optimize internal channels (e.g., SharePoint homepage; Teams All-Staff) for reach and engagement, including analytics and continuous improvement.

  • Develop presentation materials and talking points for executive and enterprise meetings.

  • Lead earned media strategy and relationships with reporters, editors, and industry outlets; pitch stories that elevate the brand and support business priorities.

  • Draft, edit, and route press releases, media statements, and Q&As; ensure consistency with brand, regulatory, and risk standards.

  • Establish and enforce communication protocol for Incident Response Team (approval matrix, holding statements, post-mortems) in partnership with Risk.

  • Create and run an online reviews strategy (Google, Apple/Android app stores, social/business directories): monitoring, response SLAs, escalation paths, and insights reporting to drive service and product improvements.

  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure timely, brand-appropriate responses and to address root-cause drivers of negative feedback.

  • Content, Governance, and Brand Standards.

  • Own the enterprise KPI dictionary and messaging guidelines for internal/external communications; institute change control and versioning.

  • Coach leaders and subject-matter experts on message development, media readiness, and presentation best practices; coordinate spokesperson training.

  • Collaborate with creative/video teams to produce high-quality content for internal culture-building and community relations.

  • Develop annual plans and quarterly scorecards; track channel engagement, employee sentiment, earned media outcomes, share of voice, and review ratings/response times; translate insights into actions.

  • Ensure all communications comply with applicable Federal/State regulations (e.g., BSA and bank/credit union advertising standards) and internal policies.

Position Requirements:

  • This position is Remote.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or commensurate experience is Required.

  • 5+ years of experience within Communications and Media is Required.

  • Prior experience with communication tools and platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, email studios, media databases) is Required.

  • Experience with media relations, issues communications, managing online reviews programs or social customer care processes is Required.
