Position Summary

At HackerOne, we are redefining how the world thinks about security and how companies earn trust in an AI-driven era. As a Senior Communications Manager, you will play a critical role in shaping how our story shows up in the market, from breaking cybersecurity news to high-impact media narratives and social storytelling that drives engagement and action.

This role sits within the Brand and Growth Marketing team and is designed for a modern communicator: someone who can navigate real-time moments, lead through ambiguity, and turn complex security topics into compelling stories that capture attention. You will own and execute communications strategies that elevate HackerOne’s voice in tier-one media, drive meaningful social engagement, and position us at the center of the most important conversations in cybersecurity.

What You Will Do

Success in the Senior Communications Manager role will be accomplished by delivering on the responsibilities below in alignment with the Values and Principles that define how we work at HackerOne:

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated communications strategies that elevate HackerOne’s presence in tier-one media and drive measurable engagement across social and digital channels, applying Data-Driven Decision Making to continuously refine approach and impact

  • Identify and capitalize on real-time cybersecurity trends and news moments, inserting HackerOne into relevant conversations with speed and clarity through Change Agility, ensuring the brand remains timely, credible, and differentiated

  • Own external storytelling across press, social, and thought leadership by translating complex security topics into clear, compelling narratives grounded in First Principles Problem Solving

  • Build and execute high-impact media strategies, including developing strong, differentiated pitches that secure top-tier coverage and position HackerOne as a category leader

  • Lead crisis communications efforts, including message development, rapid response coordination, and media engagement, maintaining composure and clarity in high-stakes situations through Change Agility

  • Drive a modern, attention-oriented social media approach that goes beyond standard posting—experimenting with formats, narratives, and channels (including video) to expand reach and engagement

  • Apply an AI First mindset to scale communications impact, leveraging AI tools to enhance content creation, media monitoring, trend identification, and workflow efficiency

  • Manage and provide strategic direction to external PR agencies and contractors, ensuring alignment with business goals, quality of execution, and consistent storytelling across channels

Minimum Qualifications  
  • 7+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field, with demonstrated success securing tier-one media coverage

  • Proven experience in crisis communications and managing high-visibility or high-pressure external narratives

  • Strong storytelling and media instincts, including the ability to develop compelling pitches and translate complex topics into clear, engaging content across both traditional and social channels

  • Demonstrated experience owning or significantly contributing to social media strategies that drive business impact, including aligning content to growth marketing campaigns, increasing audience engagement, and contributing to pipeline or conversion goals

  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools to improve communications workflows, content development, or media engagement

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating in fast-moving technology or cybersecurity environments, with an understanding of industry trends and narratives

  • Deep understanding of modern social media dynamics, including experience driving engagement through creative, non-traditional approaches

  • Experience leveraging video content as part of communications or social storytelling strategies

  • Established relationships with relevant media, journalists, or influencers in technology or cybersecurity

Compensation Bands:
Tier Guide

Tier A: $140-150k Base

Tier B: $127-150k Base
