Channel Sales Engineer – Strategic Partners

The Role

Proofpoint is looking for a Channel Sales Engineer to take ownership of some of our most strategic partners in the U.S.—and help us scale how those partners sell, position, and deliver our platform.

This is a high-impact, high-visibility role where you’ll operate like a technical quarterback across partner ecosystems. You won’t just support deals—you’ll shape partner strategy, influence multi-million dollar opportunities, and multiply our reach through others.

You’ll work side-by-side with partner engineers, sellers, and leadership teams to make Proofpoint their go-to security platform. That means getting hands-on in deals, leveling up their technical capabilities, and helping them build repeatable success.

If you like building from scratch, owning outcomes, and being in the middle of big, complex deals—this role is for you.

Location: U.S. (remote)

Travel: Required for partner and customer engagement

What You’ll Do

• Own the technical relationship with a set of high-value channel partners

• Jump into strategic deals and help drive them from first call to win

• Enable partners to confidently pitch, demo, and run Proofpoint evaluations on their own

• Build and execute a partner technical strategy that accelerates pipeline and revenue

• Act as a trusted advisor to partner leadership and technical teams

• Lead architecture conversations, design solutions, and guide proof-of-concept engagements

• Help partners build services and repeatable offerings around Proofpoint

• Work cross-functionally with Sales, Channel, Customer Success, and Threat Research

• Handle competitive conversations and position Proofpoint clearly and confidently

• Drive a consistently high bar for partner and customer experience

What You Bring

• 7+ years in Sales Engineering or technical pre-sales, ideally in cybersecurity

• Experience working with or through channel partners/resellers

• Strong understanding of enterprise sales cycles and how to win complex deals

• Background in email security, data protection, or related security technologies

• Solid grasp of messaging systems (Exchange, SMTP)

• Familiarity with directory services and integrations (LDAP, Active Directory)

• Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols

• Clear, confident communication skills—you can go deep technically or stay high-level with execs

• Ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment

• A builder mindset—you don’t wait for playbooks, you help create them

• Travel is required in this role

Why Proofpoint?

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
