About Blue Orange Digital

Blue Orange Digital is a data engineering and AI consultancy that builds production-grade data platforms, ML systems, and analytics solutions for companies that take their data seriously. We are not a staff augmentation shop or a slide-deck consultancy. We are builders. Our teams embed directly into client engineering and operations organizations, shipping work alongside their teams to accelerate delivery and build lasting capability.

Our clients include Fortune 500 enterprises and high-growth companies across commercial real estate, financial services, healthcare technology, and other data-intensive industries. We partner with Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, GCP, and Azure to deliver solutions that drive measurable ROI.

Note: Please submit your resume in English, as all application materials must be in English for review and consideration.

Location: Remote (United States)

Level: Senior

Service Line: Analytics & BI / Data Strategy / Embedded Delivery

Employment: Full-time

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Business Data Analyst who acts as the connective tissue between our clients' business stakeholders and the data they need to run their companies. You will own client engagements end to end: sitting in the room with operators and executives, translating their messiest business questions into clean analytical problems, and delivering data products that change how decisions get made.

This is not a ticket-taker role. You will lead engagements. You will set the agenda for client working sessions, push back when requirements are vague, propose better questions than the ones being asked, and own the outcome from discovery through adoption. Our best analysts pair deep SQL and modeling skills with the instincts of a consultant: you read the room, manage the room, and ship work the room actually uses.

You will also lean hard on AI. We expect every analyst at BOD to be fluent with the current generation of AI tools and to know where they help, where they hurt, and how to apply them responsibly to client work. Analysts who treat AI as an accelerator move three times faster than analysts who do not, and we are building the practice around that reality.

What You Will Do
  • Lead client-facing discovery sessions to elicit, document, and prioritize business requirements with operators, analysts, and executives

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical work: data models, dashboards, KPI frameworks, and decision-support tools that get adopted

  • Write production-quality SQL against Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift, and build trusted models in dbt or the client's modeling layer

  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting in Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Sigma, or the tool the client lives in

  • Drive proactive analysis: surface trends, anomalies, and opportunities the client did not ask about but needs to see

  • Apply AI tooling (LLM-based analysis, natural language to SQL, agentic data exploration, AI-assisted documentation) to compress timelines and raise the quality bar on every deliverable

  • Set the cadence for client communication: status updates, demos, working sessions, and stakeholder reviews

  • Mentor junior analysts on the engagement and contribute to BOD's analytics playbooks, templates, and internal tooling

What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience as a business analyst, data analyst, BI analyst, or analytics consultant, with at least 2 years in a client-facing or embedded role

  • Expert SQL: window functions, CTEs, performance tuning, and the ability to sanity-check your own numbers before anyone else has to

  • Strong data modeling fundamentals (dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, dbt or equivalent transformation tooling)

  • Hands-on experience with at least one cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift) and at least one modern BI tool (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Sigma, Mode)

  • Demonstrated ability to lead client conversations: running requirements workshops, pushing back constructively, and driving alignment across stakeholders with different priorities

  • Working fluency with AI tools for analytical work (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, AI features inside BI and SQL tools) and a clear point of view on where they speed you up vs. where they introduce risk

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the judgment to scale your message to the audience in front of you

  • Bias toward action: You would rather draft a working hypothesis and a v1 dashboard than wait for perfect requirements

Nice to Haves
  • Domain experience in commercial real estate, financial services, healthcare technology, or insurance

  • Python for analytical workflows (pandas, notebooks, light scripting against APIs)

  • Experience scoping and pricing analytics work, or contributing to SOWs and statements of work

  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks, observability tools, or governance practices

  • Prior consulting or agency experience and comfort with utilization, billing, and multi-client context switching

  • Experience implementing or evaluating AI-native analytics tools (text-to-SQL platforms, AI BI assistants, semantic layers)

What We Offer
  • Competitive base compensation with performance bonuses

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Work on diverse, high-impact engagements across industries

  • Direct access to leading-edge data and AI stacks (Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Builder culture where analysts lead engagements and ship work, not slides

  • Professional development budget and certification support

  • Flexible remote work environment with a collaborative, high-talent team

Salary: $130,000 - $160,000 yearly

Background checks may be required for certain positions/projects.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
