AWS Cloud Database Engineering

OEC is in the middle of a multi-year transformation — migrating hundreds of services to AWS. We’re looking for a Senior DBA to lead that shift as our principal technical voice on database engineering: setting platform direction, driving migrations to Amazon RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL, and building a secure, resilient AWS-native database operating model.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can lead from day one — not learn on the job.

What you’ll do

  • Own migrations to AWS managed services, with RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL as our target-state platforms
  • Plan and execute migrations using DMS and SCT, sequencing and validating each wave against our transformation roadmap
  • Architect multi-AZ, highly available database environments using RDS Proxy, automated failover, and AWS Backup
  • Define and implement IaC standards with Terraform, integrated into CI/CD pipelines
  • Lead cross-functional incident response and root cause analysis
  • Own performance, scalability, and observability using CloudWatch, RDS Performance Insights, DevOps Guru, and Datadog
  • Enforce security and governance via Secrets Manager, IAM database authentication, KMS, and VPC isolation
  • Mentor and grow our DBA team, building capability — not dependency

What you bring

  • 10–12 years of database administration experience, including 3–5 years running AWS managed database services in production
  • Proven, hands-on expertise migrating and operating RDS for SQL Server and Aurora PostgreSQL at enterprise scale
  • Real experience with DMS/SCT migrations — homogeneous and heterogeneous
  • Hands-on Terraform experience provisioning AWS database infrastructure
  • Fluency in AWS security, networking, and observability tooling
  • Strong, well-reasoned architectural opinions — and the judgment to know when to push back and when to adapt

Bonus points

AWS Certified Database Specialty, Aurora Serverless v2 or event-driven data architecture experience, cost optimization chops, and a track record leading teams through multi-year cloud migrations.

What We Offer:

  • Full benefits starting Day 1: Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Unlimited Flex Time Off plus 10 company-paid holidays
  • Remote-first role with monthly communication stipend
  • Professional development programs and tuition assistance
  • Home office equipment stipend
  • Employee resource groups and exclusive employee discounts

What makes working at OEC awesome? It varies from employee to employee. Or it could be the empowerment and how the team is encouraged to take risks, learn, and grow within a dynamic and supportive environment. But no matter what gets us out of bed in the morning, our whole global community is inspired to be forward thinking and drive innovative solutions for the automotive parts and repair industry.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
