Role Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance Underwriter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating, classifying, and rating insurance applications to ensure compliance with company guidelines and underwriting criteria. This role requires a thorough understanding of medical terminology and the impact of various medical impairments on individual morbidity risk. The ideal candidate will possess robust critical thinking skills, strong analytical skills, the ability to make decisive recommendations, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
What You'll Do:
• Analyze and evaluate insurance applications to determine the risk involved and decide whether to approve, decline, or request additional information.• Classify morbidity risk for proposed insureds based on medical information, including medical history, cognitive test scores, medical records, and prescription and claims databases.• Adhere to underwriting guidelines and procedures to ensure decisions align with corporate standards while maintaining productivity levels set by management.• Respond to appealed decisions, reinstatements, and plan change requests. Prepare responses to special circumstance letters to applicants, agents, and medical professionals.• Answer inquiries regarding eligibility, policies, underwriting guidelines, and compliance procedures.• Exhibit effective communication and customer service skills both internally and externally, including professional verbal and written communication with team members, agents, clients, and field force.• Consistently deliver high-quality underwriting decisions while meeting productivity expectations
What You'll Bring:
• Solid understanding of risk factors relating to morbidity risk management.• Knowledge of medical terminology or medical evaluation.• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.• Proficient PC skills.• Effective time management skills.• Strong organizational skills and good mathematical aptitude.• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.• Ability to work independently on multiple projects.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree preferred, BS, RN, or equivalent insurance industry experience.• A minimum of 3 years of LTC underwriting experience, including working with agents, is preferred.• Acceptable alternatives include life, disability, or health insurance underwriting experience.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $67,500 - $117,500
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
