Own catalog and merchandising data quality end-to-end: monitor catalogs, resolve data issues with brands or directly in systems, enforce merchandising standards, audit pricing and rules, maintain product taxonomy and discoverability, and partner with Product/Engineering to fix systemic platform issues.

The Role

This is a new, high-visibility role on our Category team: you'll own the quality of our merchandising and catalog data end-to-end, working directly with brand partners to get their product information right and getting hands-on with our systems to drive fixes yourself.

The ideal person for this role is equally comfortable in a conversation with a brand partner and in the weeds of a Shopify product feed. You understand the business and relationship side of working with brands, and you're technical enough to execute a fix rather than hand it off. You take ownership of a problem until it's actually resolved. You’re resourceful and comfortable working autonomously, figuring out the right path forward without waiting for direction.

What You'll Do

  • Own ongoing catalog health by proactively monitoring product data and merchandising quality across brand catalogs - not just responding when issues are reported - and take each issue through to resolution, whether that means working with the brand to fix their data or making the change yourself.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for brand partners on merchandising and catalog data, building the kind of trusted relationships that make them responsive when you reach out.
  • Set and communicate Minoan's merchandising standards clearly, coaching brand partners on what strong product data looks like on our platform.
  • Audit pricing logic and merchandising rules to ensure list prices, customer discounts, exclusions, and promotional rules are displaying and functioning as intended.
  • Maintain catalog structure and discoverability - correct categorization, variants grouped under parent products, complete metadata, and functioning filters and attributes.
  • Get hands-on with our catalog systems (Shopify admin, metafields, product feeds) to diagnose issues and execute fixes directly, rather than relying on Engineering to do it for you.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering on platform-level changes when an issue is systemic, translating what you're seeing in brand data into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Turn recurring patterns into clear, documented standards so the same issue doesn't resurface across the brand base and institutional knowledge scales with the team.

What You'll Bring

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 3-5 years in ecommerce operations, merchandising operations, catalog/PIM management, or marketplace operations
  • Hands-on comfort with product data structures (Shopify admin, variant metafields, product feeds) — you can look at the data, understand it, and make changes yourself
  • Experience working directly with external partners or suppliers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A bias toward ownership — you resolve problems end-to-end rather than handing them off

Preferred Qualifications

  • SQL or working knowledge of data warehouse/BI tools (Snowflake, Looker, BigQuery, etc.)
  • Experience with additional PIM or catalog data tools beyond Shopify (e.g., Salsify, OneSchema)
  • Familiarity with pricing structures in a multi-brand or marketplace environment
  • Comfortable enough with APIs and data mapping to work directly with Product/Eng on platform-level fixes
  • Experience in home goods, hospitality, DTC, or multi-brand marketplace catalogs

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
