WHAT’S A SENIOR ART DIRECTOR AT HOOK?

A great Senior Art Director is a creative, highly collaborative talent who excels at balancing hands-on design craft with creative direction. They are a positive, inspiring partner who is a joy to work with.

Solves complex marketing challenges through solid conceptual thinking and exceptional design. They are proficient at establishing trust with clients, confidently presenting creative work, and leading projects from ideation through execution alongside motion designers, writers, and motion designers. They have experience in digital marketing, social media landscapes, production, and technology. They have a highly collaborative creative process to generate successful, visually stunning advertising solutions.

Develop an understanding of the client’s products, UI features, and target audiences. This retained brand knowledge enables them to translate complex product features into clear, engaging stories. A Senior AD actively supports the ACD team on pitching, ideation, and design, keeping projects running smoothly and proactively identifying potential issues before they disrupt a project.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Hands-on Concepting & Execution: Collaborate with a writing partner to develop insight-driven creative concepts, executing the visual design to a standard that exceeds client expectations.
  • Design & Concepting: This role entails creating and guiding visually appealing designs and concepts, coming up with ideas and making content for social and digital campaigns. It will be important even when working with tight budgets.
  • Client Relationships: Establish and maintain positive relationships with all relevant client contacts, becoming an expert on brand culture, politics, products, preferences, and expectations.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with Design and Motion teams to refine and adjust processes to push the work further and find efficiencies.
  • Communication: Be a clear and effective communicator to the team and trusted partner to the production team
  • Creative Partnership: Partner with a Senior Copywriter and create inspiring work that drives storytelling across media
  • Presentations: Lead the development and presentation of pitch materials for all major and complex campaigns associated with a brand or brand group
  • High Quality: Ensure the highest possible quality of all strategic, creative, and design deliverables within the scope of one or more brand relationships
  • Push the Work: Elevate overall work quality by setting increasingly high standards and articulating ambitious creative opportunities (without sacrificing baseline deliverable requirements)
  • Work Relationships: Cultivate positive relationships with Design, Copywriting, Motion and Production.
  • Team Cultural Impact: Promote a positive creative culture through teamwork, positive attitude, and leading by example.
  • Travel: Ability to travel and support photo and video shoots depending on briefs

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • 5+ years of creative agency or production company experience across a variety of campaign types
  • Hands-on design experience is a must. This person will be expected to step in and support design and be able to give pixel perfect design feedback to other members of the team
  • Familiarity with motion graphics and ability to collaborate with motion designers and give clear direction
  • Bonus points if you also have hands on brand design and/or motion design experience
  • Strong portfolio that demonstrates your ability to solve complex marketing challenges with diverse tones and for various industries, especially with digital and social-first projects
  • Ability to tell a clear, engaging story using UI features and visuals, understanding of key benefits to users and how to highlight them with limited assets
  • Keep up with industry developments and AI tools
  • Ability to come up with big idea thinking promoting tech services and products is a plus
  • Experience working with tech or well recognized domestic or international brands is a plus
  • Photo and video shoot support and travel will likely be necessary (about less than 10% of the year). Overnight travel may be required.
