Job Title: Senior Applied Machine Learning Engineer

Company Description: zaimler.ai - Series A context infrastructure for enterprise AI

Job Description:
Join a high-caliber team building the missing semantic layer for autonomous agents. Working directly with the Chief Scientist (ex-LinkedIn), you will extract knowledge from fragmented enterprise data and build AI Data Graphs. This role is critical for eliminating AI hallucinations and enabling Fortune 500 companies to deploy reasoning agents at scale using proprietary domain intelligence.

Location: San Mateo, USA

Why this role is remarkable:

  • Work under a founding team of industry veterans, including the former Chief Architect of Visa and the creator of LinkedIn’s massive Skills Graph.

  • Solve the "hallucination problem" by building context infrastructure that acts as a machine-optimized employee manual for the world's largest enterprises.

  • Join a fast-moving Series A startup already deploying with Fortune 500 leaders in insurance and travel, offering significant equity and technical ownership.

What you will do:

  • Design and deploy state-of-the-art models to extract structured knowledge and relationships from heterogeneous enterprise data sources.

  • Fine-tune Large Language Models (LLMs) and Small Language Models (SLMs) with domain-specific context to power real-time inference.

  • Collaborate with data infrastructure engineers to architect a scalable platform that supports complex AI Data Graphs and semantic search.

The ideal candidate:

  • Holds an MS or PhD in Computer Science or ML with 4+ years of hands-on experience in NLP, knowledge extraction, or retrieval.

  • Proven track record of deploying and maintaining ML models in production environments, specifically using tools like spaCy, GLiNER, or vLLM.

  • Thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and possesses strong data manipulation skills using Python, NumPy, and Pandas.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
