About the Role
We’re seeking an exceptional Senior API Software Engineer to join our team and lead the development and enhancement of Healthie’s GraphQL API. This technical, hands-on role is key to supporting the rapidly growing community of developers building on our API-first platform. As the Senior API Software Engineer, you’ll focus on driving the evolution of our API to support over 1 billion monthly API calls, ensuring that developers have the tools, resources, and support they need to extend capabilities, drive analytics, and build custom experiences.
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Engineering team to prioritize and execute high-impact updates to the API experience. You’ll be responsible for continuously improving the developer toolkit, creating well-tested production-ready code, and maintaining high-quality documentation. You’ll also shape and prioritize the API roadmap based on customer feedback and industry best practices.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager of Platform, this position is ideal for someone with a strong background in API development, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to help shape the future of healthcare technology.
Details, details, details- This is a full-time, Remote position, located in the United States.
- The base salary for this role is $160,000 - $190,000 per year.
- U.S. work authorization is required and Healthie does not provide sponsorship.
- You have 6+ years experience in backend or full-stack development, with deep GraphQL or REST API expertise. (GraphQL strongly preferred, bonus points for Ruby on Rails)
- Experience building developer tools or SDKs, ideally in TypeScript, Python, or another major language.
- You have strong empathy, delivering solutions that enhance the developer experience by anticipating needs and building with excellence in mind.
- You possess exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts.
- You have a bias toward execution, consistently focusing on getting the job done and driving results even when faced with challenges.

What You’ll Do
- Design and enhance GraphQL APIs to support scalability, discoverability, and ease of use.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on authentication, rate limiting, pagination, enums, error handling, versioning strategies and other foundational platform features.
- Build or support multi-language SDKs and improve our React SDKs.
- Contribute to and maintain our API Explorer, Quickstart guides, and developer docs.
- Partner with Product & Engineering to shape our public-facing developer experience.
- Improve internal tooling and logging for better API observability and debugging.
- Influence architectural decisions and mentor junior developers.
