Position Summary:
The Senior Financial Analyst, R&D FP&A will support budgeting, forecasting, monthly close activities, and financial reporting for the Development and Medical Affairs functions. This role will work closely with functional business partners and leadership to provide financial insights and drive operational performance. This is a key contributor role offering exposure across the organization and visibility to senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Support Development and Medical Operating Expense Financial planning activities (Long Range Plan, Annual Operating Plan, and Bi-annual forecasting with associated variance analyses and reporting).
- Manage the month-end/Quarter-end close process for Development and Medical cost center expenses inclusive of PO accruals and journal entries, headcount reconciliations, while enhancing accuracy to minimize variability between actual results and budgets/forecasts.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to track and manage clinical trial study expenses, including vendor spend, CRO activity, and internal resource allocations.
- Prepare monthly OPEX financial reporting packages and dashboards for business partners, identifying key drivers of budget vs. actual variance.
- Build, iterate, and maintain Clinical Trial monthly dashboards for R&D executive leadership.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to review spending, explain variances, and identify risks and opportunities.
- Assist with headcount and personnel cost planning, working with HR and Business leads.
- Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and Apellis accounting policies and procedures.
- Act as point person for cost center managers for any questions regarding budgets, actual expenses, and spending targets.
Education, Registration & Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with minimum of 3 years’ experience in areas of accounting and financial analysis/planning.
- CPA or MBA is a plus.
Experience:
- Knowledge of US GAAP and SOX internal control principles for a public company.
- Experience with SAP (ERP) and Adaptive Insights (planning and reporting) is a plus.
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI / Tableau is a plus.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and partner successfully with non-Finance personnel while remaining a strong representative of/for the Finance team.
- Ability to work in a team environment and willing to assist other team members to achieve goals and objectives.
- Comfort challenging the status quo, driving change, and managing in a dynamic work environment.
