At Hive, we are dedicated to creating moments that matter by connecting event marketers to their biggest fans. We are looking to add a Senior UX Designer specializing in AI interactions to work alongside our Agentic AI Pod to design revolutionary and intuitive solutions that transform how marketers accomplish real work through intelligent agents. The Agentic AI team plays a pioneering role in reimagining user experiences through natural language interfaces and intelligent automation.

What does being a Sr UX Designer at Hive look like?

Hive is an email & SMS marketing automation platform, empowering brands to personalize their marketing strategies. The Sr UX Designer role on our Agentic AI Pod plays a critical part in understanding how humans want to interact with AI systems, participating in AI strategy building, and designing trustworthy, transparent interfaces for agentic experiences. Under the leadership of our VP, Product, you'll be at the center of defining how our customers experience AI-powered workflows and conversational interfaces.

What I get up to:

  • Champion human-AI collaboration: Spend time with our customers to understand not just how they work today, but how they want to work with AI agents. Advocate for human-centered AI design that amplifies user capabilities while maintaining control and trust.

  • Pioneer AI interaction design: Build (invent!) foundational design patterns for conversational interfaces, agentic workflows, and AI transparency. Define how users should interact with intelligent systems that can take actions on their behalf.

  • Design breakthrough AI experiences: Whether we're prototyping new agentic capabilities or refining existing AI features, use your specialized skillset to lead AI-focused brainstorms, create conversational flows, explore multi-modal interactions, build AI prototypes, and craft interfaces that make complex AI accessible.

  • Lead AI UX research and testing: Spearhead research into AI interaction patterns, user mental models of AI systems, and trust-building design elements. Design and conduct testing for conversational interfaces and agentic workflows.

  • Work cross-functionally: Partner with the PM in this space to envision the future. Work with engineers to ensure UX considerations are built into model and design and training. Work across other pods to establish standards wherever agents exist in our platform.

  • Define AI design standards: Build concrete design systems and interaction patterns for AI interfaces, including conversation design principles, error handling for AI failures, and transparency guidelines that help users understand AI capabilities and limitations.

  • Navigate AI ambiguity: Help the team and our users understand what's possible with emerging AI technology, designing experiences that set appropriate expectations and gracefully handle AI system limitations.

What I need to be successful

  • AI/Conversational UX expertise: experience designing for AI products, conversational interfaces, or intelligent systems. Experience with chatbots, voice interfaces, or agentic AI systems strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years as a UX designer on agile product development teams, working from inception to launch on customer-facing features, with demonstrable experience in complex, technical product domains.

  • AI-informed design skillset: Generalist who can work across the AI UX lifecycle - from researching user mental models of AI, to designing conversation flows, to prototyping AI interactions, to testing user trust and comprehension.

  • Portfolio showcasing AI/conversational work: Representative work that highlights your skills solving complex interaction problems, particularly with intelligent systems, natural language interfaces, or automation.

  • Understanding of AI capabilities and limitations: Knowledge of what's possible (and not possible) with current AI technology to design realistic and achievable user experiences.

  • Ownership mindset for emerging tech: Ability to navigate uncertainty inherent in cutting-edge AI while building concrete design solutions that work today and scale for tomorrow.

  • Strong tool proficiency: Experience with standard tools (Figma, Linear, GitHub) plus familiarity with conversation design tools, prototyping for AI interactions, and AI/ML workflow visualization.

We understand that AI UX is a rapidly evolving field. If you meet some but not all requirements but bring unique AI design experience, please apply. We’d love to hear from you even if you’re not an exact match to our list.

Nice to haves

A side skill-set in prompt engineering, conversation design, copy writing, or research would be an asset but is not required in this role. Experience in martech or event marketing technology would also be a bonus!

How I show up

  • You excel at explaining complexity: You have excellent communication skills and can help stakeholders understand how users should interact with AI systems, building confidence in novel interaction paradigms.

  • You have broad AI UX skills: You know when to use conversation design, when to leverage traditional UI patterns, and when to invent entirely new interaction models for agentic systems.

  • You thrive in AI uncertainty: You can create clarity and concrete design solutions even when the underlying AI technology is rapidly evolving or capabilities are still being defined.

  • You design for AI partnership: You understand that the best AI experiences feel like collaboration rather than automation, designing interfaces that keep humans in control while leveraging AI superpowers.

  • You're hungry to understand AI user needs: You want to understand not just what users want to accomplish, but how they want to work with AI agents to get there, ensuring AI features integrate naturally into existing workflows.

  • You champion responsible AI design: You proactively consider AI ethics, bias, and user safety in your designs, creating experiences that users can trust and understand.

Compensation & Benefits Package

  • Meaningful salary + equity: you’re rewarded based on impact

  • Work fully remote in Canada or the US: where you’re most productive whether that be from your house, or elsewhere. We just ask that you have the legal work authorization in the country that you reside & work within.

  • Flexible work hours: customize your schedule as long as it’s not disruptive to your role, team, and Hive

  • Health + Insurance: comprehensive health and dental coverage with a generous parental leave top-up program

  • Unlimited vacation/PTO policy: so you can be happy and healthy!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
