Who we are

Picogrid is a leading venture-backed defense technology company founded to bridge the decades-long gap between modern technology and the critical demands of national security. Today, we're building the essential infrastructure to unify sensors, autonomy, and operators with our technology deployed in active operations around the world. Our mission is to deliver an operational advantage to secure the United States and its allies.

About the role

As Sr. Accounting Manager, you will own the day-to-day accounting operations at Picogrid: building the systems, processes, and controls that underpin accurate financial reporting and support a fast-scaling defense technology company. This role is designed for someone who thrives in the details, earns trust through execution, and has ambitions to grow into a Controller as the company scales.

You'll work closely with our finance leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure our books are clean, our close is tight, and our financial infrastructure keeps pace with the business.

Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly close process end-to-end: journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Maintain GAAP-compliant accounting policies, including revenue recognition under ASC 606 for government and commercial contracts.

  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and daily invoice processing and reconciliation.

  • Monitor cash flow, support treasury operations, and maintain bank reconciliations.

  • Build and enforce internal controls that are rigorous enough for audit and scalable for growth.

  • Support FAR/DFARS compliance and cost tracking across government contracts.

  • Lead preparation for external audits and tax filings in partnership with finance leadership.

  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting systems, workflows, and tools as the company grows.

  • Contribute to board-level financial reporting and support fundraising diligence as needed.

Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition and accrual accounting.

  • Hands-on experience owning a monthly close process.

  • Proficiency with accounting software (NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar).

  • CPA or active CPA candidate strongly preferred.

  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in defense technology, aerospace, government contracting, or adjacent industries.

  • Familiarity with FAR/DFARS, CAS, or government contract accounting.

  • Experience at a venture-backed startup, ideally through a Series A or beyond.

  • Ambition to grow into a Controller role and take on broader ownership over time.

  • Excitement about defense technology and the mission it supports.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary range: $120,000 - $180,000 per year plus performance incentive. Base salary is just one part of your total compensation package.

  • Significant stock options with a high potential upside as an early-stage company

  • 401(k) with employer matching

  • Full health coverage (medical, dental, and vision insurance)

  • Relocation assistance provided (if applicable)

  • Unlimited PTO (two-week minimum) and 11 paid holidays per year

  • Paid parental leave for both parents

  • Lunch provided when working in-office and a fully stocked kitchenette

  • Free EV charging at the HQ

  • Unique office in El Segundo, CA stocked with quality coffee, snacks, and craft beer

Export Control Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
