Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing team. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you'll play a crucial role in maintaining our financial health and accuracy by executing key accounting functions and processes. You'll help ensure our financial reporting is timely, accurate, and compliant with relevant accounting standards.

Our ideal candidate is meticulous, process-driven, and able to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. You should be comfortable juggling multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. This role requires someone who can establish and improve accounting procedures as we scale, while consistently meeting deadlines within a high-growth setting.

You bring solid accounting experience, ideally with exposure to startups or high-growth environments. You have a track record of maintaining accurate financial records and can adapt quickly as processes and systems evolve.

This role is open to remote candidates located in the U.S. Eastern time zone.

Core ResponsibilitiesMonth-End Close Process

  • Execute core components of the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Review balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assist in analyzing financial statement fluctuations and variances to prior periods
  • Support the Assistant Controller in streamlining and improving the close process

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Support audit requirements by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries
  • Help maintain compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards
  • Assisting external tax preparers by providing supporting schedules for tax filings and other requests, as well as assistance with other regulatory requirements
  • Document accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent application

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Review and process vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding and approvals
  • Manage the payment cycle and vendor relationships
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
  • Process employee expense reports and ensure compliance with company policies

Cash Management & Treasury

  • Assist Finance with cash flow forecasting and monitoring
  • Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis
  • Process and record wire transfers and other banking transactions
  • Support treasury operations as needed

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency
  • Support implementation and optimization of accounting systems and tools
  • Create and maintain documentation for accounting processes and controls
  • Assist in developing scalable processes to support company growth

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Experience with month-end close processes and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems)
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort with financial systems
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with a "roll up your sleeves" attitude

How You'll Stand Out

  • CPA certification or actively pursuing certification
  • Experience with system implementations or conversions
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany transactions, and consolidated financial reporting
  • Knowledge of revenue recognition for fintech and consumer lending
  • Experience with financial controls and compliance in regulated environments

  3. Paid case study (asynchronous) to to see your skills in action and give you a taste for the kinds of problems you’ll be solving at Clair
  4. Case review with Assistant Controller (45 minutes) to review your case study deliverable and “co-build” the next steps
  5. Panel interview with the Clair team (45 minutes) to meet with cross-functional members of the team and determine mutual fit
  6. Final conversation with VP, Finance & Operations (30 minutes) to hear more about the story of Clair, his expectations for this role, and to ask any lingering questions.

Additional Details

Location: This role is open to remote candidates located in the U.S. Eastern time zone only.

Compensation: The annual base salary for this role is $106,000 to $116,000. The base pay for this role is determined using many factors, such as education, skills and experience and is reflective of Clair Series stage and size.  Base pay is only one part of Clair’s competitive total compensation package which includes equity, benefits and additional perks. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
