Hall CPA is a 100% virtual, real estate-focused public accounting firm. Our Setups team is the front door for new clients. We build clean, tax-ready books for new engagements and take messy ones through cleanup and catch-up work, then hand them off to our monthly team, our tax team, or back to the client.
You will own 30+ active client engagements at a time, each running 5 to 6 weeks, and lead a team of offshore accountants who handle day-to-day preparation. This role is built for a public accounting senior who is client-facing, project-driven, and comfortable keeping many engagements moving at once.
Areas of Responsibility

  • Run the kickoff call after the engagement is sold, set expectations, and own the timeline through close-out

  • Set up and clean up QuickBooks Online files, including chart of accounts, entity structure, and catch-up work, so books flow cleanly into tax reporting

  • Supervise and review offshore team members by setting deadlines, managing capacity, and giving clear direction and feedback

  • Manage client communication throughout the engagement, including status updates, follow-ups for missing information, and a delivery call to walk through the final books and train clients who will maintain their own

  • Prioritize 30+ engagements at once and escalate early when something is at risk

  • Prepare handoffs with full context so the monthly or tax team can pick up the file and the client does not feel the change

  • Keep engagement notes and documentation current, and adhere to firm and AICPA ethics, including confidentiality

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting

  • 3+ years of public accounting experience in a client-facing role

  • Experience supervising or reviewing the work of other accountants

  • Strong QuickBooks Online experience (QBO certification preferred)

  • Solid technical accounting knowledge and an understanding of how entity structures (LLCs, partnerships, S corps) affect tax reporting

  • Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines at once

  • Real estate or property management accounting experience preferred.

Measures for Success

  • Client NPS averaging 9/10 or greater

  • On-time delivery of engagements

  • Accurate work, with less than 5% unsatisfactory in internal quality reviews

  • Smooth handoffs to the monthly and tax teams

Expectations for Remote Work

  • Quiet, professional background and business casual attire for client calls, with video always on

  • Laptop provided, plus a $500 annual tech reimbursement

You're a Good Fit For Our Culture If

  • You're friendly, have a sense of humor, and enjoy helping and teaching others

  • You take ownership of your work, clients, and team and drive engagements to the finish line

  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment with strong time management

  • You love working with clients and delivering results

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
