We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to play a critical role in our accounting operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in general accounting principles and deep expertise in technical accounting areas specific to the SaaS industry, including ASC 606 and ASC 340-40. You will be a key contributor to the month-end close process, financial reporting, and the implementation of best practices.

At Drata, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional experiences that earn and sustain trust. This role will be vital in maintaining trust in our financial reporting while enabling effective audits of our financial statements and related disclosures.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist with the end-to-end revenue recognition process under ASC 606, performing detailed contract analysis, identifying performance obligations, and managing deferred revenue across all SaaS revenue streams.
  • Lead key areas of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Manage the accounting for deferred contract costs in compliance with ASC 340-40, overseeing the accurate calculation, amortization, and reconciliation of capitalized sales commissions.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries and perform comprehensive balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts, including revenue, deferred commissions, and accruals.
  • Collaborate with external auditors and support the preparation of financial statements by providing necessary schedules, documentation, and explanations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and partner with cross-functional teams to enhance the efficiency and internal controls of the accounting function.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA designation or active CPA candidate is highly preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a mix of public accounting and private industry experience desired.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with the application of ASC 606 and ASC 340-40 within a SaaS or subscription-based business model is required.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems and tools, including NetSuite (ERP), Salesforce (CRM), and Xactly (incentive compensation).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, complex formulas).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex accounting concepts to non-accountants.

Benefits:

  • Healthcare: 90-100% paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision plans for employee and dependents + on demand health care concierge
  • HSA, FSA, & DCFSA: Pre-tax savings plans for healthcare and dependent care, with up to a $600 annual employer contribution to the HSA plan (if enrolled in HSA medical plan)
  • 100% paid short and long term disability plus life + AD&D benefits
  • Learning & Development: $500 annually towards professional development opportunities + $250 annually towards personal development opportunities
  • Flexible Time Off: Flexible vacation policy for strong, fully charged batteries
  • 16 Weeks Paid Parental Leave: An inclusive policy to ensure you have time with your newborn, newly adopted, or foster child (available after six months of employment)
  • Work Remotely: Flexible hours and work from home + $1,000 annually to cover necessary business related items for your home office
  • 401K: Reach your financial goals while reducing your taxes

This role will receive a competitive base salary, benefits, and stock, typically in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
