Build and optimize Moon's real-time 3D experience using React Three Fiber and Three.js. Own render/runtime performance, design compact 3D data formats and asset pipelines, implement scene-graph systems (materials, lighting, geometry, instancing), profile GPU/CPU/memory bottlenecks, and ship reusable, documented 3D APIs for consuming teams.

About Moon

Moon is an ambitious, independent vertical SaaS company incubated by Home Organizers, a market leader with decades of proven success in home organization through its subsidiaries, including Closet World, Closets by Design, and Brio Water Technology. Born inside one of the industry's largest operators — 6,000+ employees, hundreds of thousands of new customers served annually — Moon is built on a rare advantage: we build for the home improvement industry from within it.

Our mission is to reinvent the home improvement experience end to end. From AI-driven marketing and in-home 3D design to sales, service, and operations, Moon unifies the entire customer and business journey on a single platform — supercharged by Luna, our proprietary AI engine. Where most operators stitch together disconnected tools that don't understand the homeowner, we're building the unified operating system the industry has never had. We're a rapidly growing team of committed builders, driven to reimagine how this industry sells, designs, and delivers — and to power the next generation of operators, from single-location dealers to national franchise networks.

Role Overview

You will build the 3D heart of Moon's platform - real-time 3D in React Three Fiber and Three.js that homeowners experience in their own homes. This is a role for an engineer who loves both the craft of real-time 3D and the discipline of building for other engineers: new capabilities shipped as clean abstractions, and performance treated as a feature with a number on it.

About the role

You will join a small, senior team with a mandate to build boldly. The 3D experience is used by designers selling in customers' homes - it runs on tablets, in the field, in front of homeowners - so everything you build is measured in frames, megabytes, and seconds to first render. You will own hard, high-leverage optimization problems whose specifics we share during the interview process.

What you'll do

Develop new 3D capabilities that serve multiple product teams - exposed as clean, versioned, documented APIs rather than one-off features.

Own render and runtime performance on real devices: frame rates, load times, and memory budgets on tablets in customers' homes - profile, fix, and hold the budgets.

Own the optimization of our core 3D data formats and structures - significant size reduction is a priority, and you will design the formats, pipelines, and loading strategies that get us there (specifics shared under NDA).

Do deep scene-graph work: materials, geometry, lighting, instancing, and data-driven scene assembly.

Write the documentation and examples that make your work consumable without meetings; support consuming teams on a light rotation.

Ship daily behind flags with AI-assisted workflows on a shared design system.

Qualifications

5+ years of front-end/graphics engineering with production Three.js or React Three Fiber.

Strong 3D fundamentals: scene graphs, materials, lighting, geometry, GPU performance - and the linear algebra beneath them.

Real experience optimizing data formats, asset pipelines, or file sizes (compression, binary formats, lazy loading, LODs) - you can tell a before/after story with numbers.

Profiling depth across GPU, CPU, and memory; you find the actual bottleneck, not the assumed one.

Experience building libraries or SDKs consumed by other teams a strong plus.

   Pragmatic, detail-oriented, and fast-moving.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
