This role supports Nexthink's Product organization, serving a group of 30+ people. What you'll do
- Design, develop, and own search architectures and information retrieval systems, including indexing, ranking, and query understanding.
- Build and optimize search pipelines leveraging Machine Learning, NLP, and AI techniques (e.g., semantic search, embeddings, LLM-powered retrieval).
- Develop scalable data pipelines and data engineering workflows to process, enrich, and serve large-scale datasets for search.
- Implement and improve ranking algorithms, relevance tuning, and personalization strategies.
- Integrate search capabilities with distributed systems using APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud services (AWS or similar).
- Monitor, evaluate, and iterate on search quality using metrics such as relevance, latency, and user engagement.
- Collaborate with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to define and prioritize search and discovery features.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in Software Engineering, with strong focus on Search, Information Retrieval, or Machine Learning systems.
- Strong background in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related fields.
- Experience with search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Lucene, or similar).
- Solid understanding of Information Retrieval concepts (ranking, indexing, query processing, relevance).
- Experience with NLP techniques (tokenization, embeddings, transformers, semantic search).
- Experience in Data Engineering (data pipelines, ETL, large-scale data processing).
- Proficiency in Java (or similar backend languages) and distributed systems.
- Experience with RESTful APIs and messaging systems like Kafka is valued.
- Familiar with ML pipelines, experimentation, and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated, with strong ownership and organizational skills.
- Positive and solution-oriented mindset.
- Professional-level English (spoken and written).
