Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Scientist specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will lead advanced NLP projects, leveraging your deep expertise to extract meaningful insights from unstructured text data. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop cutting-edge solutions that drive actionable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end development of NLP projects, from problem definition to model deployment and monitoring.
  • Apply advanced NLP techniques to extract, analyze, and interpret large volumes of textual data.
  • Design and implement scalable algorithms and models to solve specific business problems using NLP techniques such as sentiment analysis, topic modeling, entity recognition, etc.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate NLP models into production systems and ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in NLP research and techniques, and evaluate their applicability to our projects.
  • Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner, influencing strategic decision-making processes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 10+ years ML experience
  • 8-10 years hands-on experience in applying NLP techniques to real-world problems, with a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions
  • 2 years of experience developing LLM based solutions include agentic AI
  • Should be very aware of latest and greatest in Generative AI – More specifically Agentic, MCPs
  • Should be highly skilled in Python, PySpark, Databricks, Azure AI services, Machine Learning, NLP
  • Need healthcare experience albeit low. Anything more than 6 months will suffice. Could be in the payer or provider space. 
  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Scala, with experience in libraries and frameworks like NLTK, SpaCy, Gensim, Transformers, etc.
  • Expertise in machine learning techniques and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) for NLP tasks.
  • Solid understanding of text representation techniques (such as word embeddings), text classification, information extraction, and other NLP-related areas.
  • Experience in deploying NLP models in production environments, with knowledge of containerization (e.g., Docker) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with deep learning models for NLP tasks (e.g., BERT, GPT, Transformer models).
  • Familiarity with Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) for handling large-scale textual data.
  • Publications or contributions to the NLP research community (papers, open-source projects, etc.).
  • Experience in the [specific industry/sector] domain is a plus.

Pay:

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.  The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.  A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $120,000 - $145,000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus for the current performance period.

Benefits:

As a full-time employee of the company or as an hourly employee working more than 30 hours per week, you will be eligible to participate in the health, dental, vision, life insurance, and disability plans in accordance with the plan documents, which may be amended from time to time.  You will be eligible for benefits on the first day of employment with the Company.  In addition, you are eligible to participate in the Company 401(k) Plan after 30 days of employment, in accordance with the applicable plan terms.   The Company provides for 11 paid holidays and 12 weeks of Parental Leave. We also follow a “free time” PTO policy, allowing you the flexibility to take time needed for either sick time or vacation.
