The summary above was generated by AI

Meter is at an inflection point. Our team has built a vertically-integrated networking solution across hardware, software, operations and service that makes it incredibly easy for businesses of all sizes to connect to the internet quickly and reliably. We’re on a mission to disrupt the networking industry, a market where the top 5 players have a combined valuation of over half a trillion dollars. Our vision is to evolve the internet into a utility.

As a result, we have aggressive growth goals, and are expanding our Enterprise go-to-market efforts to meet growing demand from some of the largest and most innovative organizations in the United States. As one of our first Sales Engineers supporting our Enterprise sales team, you’ll be the voice of our technology with Enterprise customers in the Southwest, scale our go-to-market motion across strategic U.S. accounts and serve as an integral link in the feedback loop between our product team and customers with highly complex infrastructure requirements.

What success looks like

Within your first 6 months, you will:

  • Become a Subject Matter Expert across the entire Meter portfolio

  • Establish your role as a trusted advisor both internally and externally for customers and partners

  • Build strong cross-functional collaboration with internal teams

  • Own the delivery of compelling demos and POCs that drive deals forward

  • Design and deliver tailored architectures to solve customer use cases

  • Unblock complex opportunities through deep technical expertise

  • Lead technical discovery calls to deeply understand customer requirements

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to influence roadmap based on customer requirements

  • Shorten the sales cycle and increase POC win rate in a meaningful way

What your day will look like

As one of the first few SEs, you will work directly with a team of Enterprise AEs, and a typical day will include:

  • Adding value to discovery calls by understanding customer pain points with technical curiosity.

  • Delivering world-class demonstrations that inspire, getting buy-in across multiple stakeholders, from office managers to CIOs.

  • Architecting solutions, removing obstacles, and closing deals through work with customers and partners.

  • Partnering directly with the Account Executives on your team to create urgency and drive deals forward.

  • Collect valuable customer feedback to directly influence our product roadmap, specifically in the context of highly scaled, often customized, enterprise deployments.

Who you are
  • You are obsessed with and nerd out on networking.

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Information and Computer Technology, Cybersecurity, Networking, IT Security, Computer Engineering or related degree from an accredited university.

  • You’ve been executing successfully as a high-performing sales engineer at high-growth companies, where you’ve built deep expertise in designing, building and deploying complex networking infrastructure at scale.

  • You have expert knowledge in TCP/IP, TLS, DHCP, DNS, NAT, 802.1X, VPNs, IDS/IPS, Multicast, OSPF, BGP & EVPN-VXLAN.

  • You take your professional development seriously, and ideally have completed several standard industry certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CWNA, CWDP, CWSP, CWNE, JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIE, Network+, Security+, etc.

  • You don’t see yourself as “sales support”. You are, and always have been, a strategic asset to sales. You love the thrill of the hunt. You love to close deals. You love to win, both individually and as a team.

  • You're based in the Southwest, ideally in a major metropolitan area like Los Angeles or Phoenix, and live close to a major airport.

Why Meter?

The internet runs the world. Every purchase you make, video call you join, it's all packets flowing through networks. But those networks haven’t changed for decades. They’re brittle, complex, and surprisingly hard to set up in an enterprise space.

We started Meter to build better networks. We had to build everything from the ground-up: designing and building our own enterprise hardware, intuitive software, and streamlined operations to deliver great outcomes for our customers. Today, we build and deploy these networks at scale. Ambitious companies and enduring institutions like Bridgewater, Lyft, Reddit, rely on Meter to keep their thousands of employees and locations online and productive.

Our bet with Meter is simple: we will all use the internet more than we do today. We believe we have the definitive networking stack in place to enable business to do so as seamlessly and reliably as any modern utility.

Compensation

  • The estimated base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $190,000.

  • Additionally, this role is eligible to earn commissions and to participate in Meter’s equity plan.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
