Chromatic is looking for a Sales Engineer to partner closely with our Sales team and drive the technical success of our Enterprise deals. In this role, you’ll lead the technical evaluation process, from first conversation through proof-of-concept, helping engineering teams understand how Chromatic and Storybook fit into their workflows and deliver measurable value.

You’ll act as a trusted technical advisor to prospective customers, guiding architecture decisions, solving complex frontend and CI challenges, and demonstrating how modern teams can adopt component-driven development at scale, while showcasing the importance and impact of visual regression testing in building reliable UIs.

This is a high-impact, revenue-critical role where your ability to connect technical depth with business value will directly influence pipeline progression, deal success, and company growth.

This is a fully remote position and the candidate must be located in Central or Eastern Time Zone within the US or Canada.

What you’ll do
  • Partner with Account Executives to drive the technical win in Enterprise sales cycles

  • Translate product capabilities into clear business and engineering impact for stakeholders (from ICs to leadership)

  • Lead technical discovery to understand prospect architecture, workflows, and challenges

  • Deliver tailored product demos that clearly articulate Chromatic and Storybook’s value for frontend teams

  • Own and execute proof-of-concepts (POCs) and technical evaluations

  • Guide prospects through integrating Chromatic into their CI/CD pipelines and development workflows

  • Advise on best practices for scaling component-driven development and modern front-end testing across teams.

  • Address technical objections, including security, performance, and architecture concerns

  • Collaborate with prospects’ engineering teams to solve real-world implementation challenges during evaluations

  • Support RFPs, security reviews, and technical due diligence processes

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to relay customer feedback and shape roadmap priorities

  • Continuously improve demo environments, evaluation processes, and technical sales collateral

  • Stay current with frontend trends and emerging best practices, bringing thoughtful perspectives into conversations with Product and Engineering leaders

What we’re looking for

Experience:

  • 3+ years in a pre-sales technical role

  • Experience working at a B2B SaaS company

  • Strong frontend engineering background with experience in modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Webpack, Vite)

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)

Technical Skills

  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical environments and propose practical solutions

  • Experience running demos, technical discovery, proof-of-values, and proof-of-concepts

  • Clear and confident communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with different audiences (engineers, managers, and executives)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong situational awareness and the ability to “read the room,” allowing you to quickly understand stakeholder dynamics, adapt your approach in real time, and build trust with both technical and non-technical audiences

  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills; you know how to navigate complex customer organizations and create alignment across teams

  • A consultative mindset — you ask thoughtful questions, listen deeply, and tailor solutions to each customer’s unique context rather than jumping to generic answers

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, especially in high-stakes, deal-driven environments

  • Growth mindset — you’re curious, proactive about learning, and constantly looking to refine your craft (both technically and in how you engage with customers)

  • Enjoy navigating ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Storybook and/or Chromatic

  • Familiarity with design systems and scaling frontend development across teams

  • Experience in developer tools

Why this role is exciting
  • Join a fast-growing company with a strong developer community and product-market fit

  • Work directly with leading engineering teams at top companies

  • Help define how modern frontend teams build, test, and scale UI

  • Play a critical role in driving revenue and shaping technical sales strategy

  • Influence product direction through direct customer interaction

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
