About the Role

As the first MSSP Sales Engineer, you will build and define the technical function of Abnormal’s MSSP program, ensuring partners have the knowledge, tools, and resources to drive revenue through Abnormal Security. You will work closely with Channel Sales, Partner Success, and Product teams to develop and execute a technical strategy for MSSP engagement, including technical enablement, solution architecture, and partner integrations.

This is a foundational technical role—not only will you provide hands-on pre-sales support, but you will also develop the technical enablement framework that ensures long-term success with MSSPs. You will be responsible for partner technical onboarding, pre-sales guidance, integration best practices, and ongoing technical enablement, helping MSSPs integrate Abnormal Security seamlessly into their service offerings.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and define the MSSP technical function, establishing best practices for partner technical enablement, integration, and sales alignment.
  • Serve as the primary technical counterpart to the MSSP Account Team, ensuring MSSPs are fully equipped to position, sell, and deliver Abnormal Security as part of their managed security services.
  • Develop a scalable MSSP technical enablement program, including structured training, certifications, workshops, and hands-on labs to accelerate partner success.
  • Design and execute technical integration strategies, helping MSSPs align Abnormal Security with their SIEM, SOAR, SOC operations, and security automation platforms.
  • Lead technical pre-sales engagements, supporting MSSP-led customer demos, Proof-of-Concepts (PoCs), and security architecture discussions to drive partner-led revenue.
  • Define MSSP-specific technical sales plays, ensuring partners can effectively differentiate and position Abnormal Security in their managed services portfolio.
  • Create and maintain technical enablement materials, including solution guides, integration frameworks, and sales playbooks, ensuring MSSPs have the resources they need.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to MSSPs, providing expert guidance on security architecture, operational best practices, and product alignment with MSSP services.
  • Establish technical success metrics, tracking MSSP engagement, enablement effectiveness, and technical adoption trends to optimize program impact.
  • Represent Abnormal Security at MSSP industry events, technical summits, and cybersecurity forums, strengthening our position within the MSSP ecosystem.

Must Haves

  • 7-10+ years of pre-sales engineering, technical partner enablement, or security solutions architecture experience, with a focus on MSSPs and managed security services.
  • Proven experience in building the technical function of an MSSP program, including technical enablement, integration strategies, and scalable partner engagement.
  • Deep knowledge of MSSP service models, SOC operations, and security automation, including how MSSPs package, sell, and deliver security services.
  • Hands-on expertise in email security, cloud security, and API-driven security solutions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, SIEM/SOAR platforms, threat intelligence, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong training and enablement experience, with the ability to create structured partner onboarding and technical certification programs.
  • A strategic technical mindset, capable of building a scalable MSSP technical function while also executing on day-to-day pre-sales responsibilities.
  • Strong self-starter mentality, comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where building from scratch is required.
  • Willingness to travel for MSSP partner enablement, joint sales activities, and industry events.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in a foundational MSSP SE role, helping to define and scale an MSSP technical function at a cybersecurity vendor.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, AWS/Azure Security, or Google Cloud Security Engineer.
  • Experience with API-based security solutions, automation, and cloud-native security architectures.
  • Previous startup or high-growth company experience.

At Abnormal Security certain roles are eligible for a bonus, restricted stock units (RSUs), and benefits. Individual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including their skills, experience, qualifications and other job-related reasons. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
