Company Description

About the Company
Expert Institute is the leading technology platform that connects litigation attorneys with expert witnesses. As the largest player in a multi-billion-dollar market, we’ve only just begun to tap into the whitespace with ~2% market share. We serve thousands of clients in all 50 states, supported by over 1M in-network experts and a support staff of 100+. Joining our team means stepping into a fast-growing, profitable, subscription-based technology business at an early stage of its journey.

About You
You’re a proven B2B sales professional with a track record of closing new business and expanding client relationships. Ideally, you’ve sold directly to law firms and know how to build trust with attorneys, paralegals, and administrators. You’re energized by a large, untapped market, motivated by significant financial upside, and skilled at moving deals from cold outreach through negotiation and close.

About the Role
As a Director of Business Development, you’ll own a defined territory, responsible for both new business growth and account expansion. This is an individual contributor role where you’ll leverage your experience, creativity, and persistence to deliver results.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

  • Drive new business and manage accounts within your territory
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through outbound prospecting, networking, events, and inbound leads
  • Manage the full sales cycle from first outreach to contract close
  • Develop client relationships across short-term transactional deals and longer-term subscriptions
  • Travel to clients and industry events (approx. 25%+)

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of full-cycle B2B sales experience with a record of exceeding quotas

  • Prior success selling to law firms strongly preferred

  • Skilled at cold calling, objection handling, and closing

  • Confident in both virtual and in-person meetings; polished presence and business acumen

  • Comfortable in a fast-moving, evolving environment

  • Proficiency in Salesforce and Google Workspace

Additional Information

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation with significant earning potential

  • Comprehensive benefits: top-tier Medical, Dental, Vision, pre-tax savings, 401(k) with match

  • Home office setup & expense account for travel/entertainment

  • Continued education allowance

  • Supportive, growth-oriented culture

At Expert Institute, you’ll join a market leader recognized for innovation and impact in the legal industry. If you’re ready to grow your career while helping law firms improve their outcomes, we’d love to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
