"VAST's data management vision is the future of the market." - Forbes

VAST Data is the data platform company for the AI era. We are building the enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets and make them available for real-time data analysis and AI training and inference. Designed from the ground up to make AI simple to deploy and manage, VAST takes the cost and complexity out of deploying enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud.

Our success has been built through intense innovation, a customer-first mentality and a team of fearless VASTronauts who leverage their skills & experiences to make real market impact. This is an opportunity to be a key contributor at a pivotal time in our company’s growth and at a pivotal point in computing history.

Overview:

VAST Data is redefining the data platform for the AI era. As one of the fastest-growing infrastructure software companies in history, VAST sits at the center of the AI, HPC, and data revolution reshaping government, science, and national priorities.

With nearly an exabyte deployed across the public sector, VAST supports some of the largest and most demanding environments across DOE, VA, HHS, NOAA, and other Federal Civilian agencies. Our platform functions as the operating system for AI—simplifying data infrastructure while driving efficiency, scale, and performance across on-prem, cloud, and edge environments.

We are seeking a Sales Director, Federal Civilian to help lead and expand this momentum. This is a senior, high-impact role for an executive who understands how to build markets, shape demand, and close transformational deals within complex federal environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute long-term account strategies across Federal Civilian agencies, aligned to mission priorities, budget cycles, and modernization initiatives.
  • Drive new business and expansion opportunities for VAST’s data platform across AI, HPC, analytics, and enterprise data workloads.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior agency leaders, program executives, IT leadership, and procurement stakeholders.
  • Navigate complex federal acquisition environments, including FAR-based procurements, IDIQs, GWACs, BPAs, and agency-specific vehicles.
  • Partner closely with systems integrators, cloud providers, and federal resellers to scale impact and accelerate adoption.
  • Lead executive-level discussions focused on efficiency, consolidation, AI readiness, and mission outcomes—not point products.
  • Accurately manage pipeline, forecasting, and deal execution while maintaining disciplined sales operations.
  • Serve as a visible representative of VAST within the federal ecosystem, including at industry events, executive briefings, and customer forums.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive sales experience, with a proven track record of success in B2B sales, preferably within the database industry.
  • Excellent evangelism skills with the ability to effectively communicate the value proposition of complex technical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of database technologies, storage systems, and data management principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with C-level executives and senior decision-makers.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a results-driven mindset and a passion for exceeding sales targets.
  • Exceptional negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and other sales productivity tools.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • TS/SCI clearance preferred

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
